Who won 'The Road'? CBS crowns its first champion after high-stakes finale
The debut season of 'The Road' on CBS seems to have taken off to a wonderful start. The finale episode, which aired on Sunday, December 21, crowned the first-ever winner of the show. While twelve new voices competed among themselves through the previous weeks, only three of them made it to the finals. 'The Road' has taken a different approach to music-based reality television shows, differing from 'The Voice' and 'The Masked Singer' in that it not only awards its winner a significant prize but also recognizes the runners-up.
The finale of The Road's debut season saw Channing Wilson, Cassidy Daniels, and Adam Sanders battling it out amongst themselves at the Ryman Auditorium located in Nashville, Tennessee. As per the usual programming of the show, the three contestants opened for Keith Urban, following which they delivered their solo performances. They were then rated by the audience to decide the winner, as reported by the Appalachian News Express. For the finale, each finalist was required to present a cover song as well as an original song that had been previously performed by them on the show.
Daniels kicked off the competition with her cover of 'Crazy on You' by Heart. She then sang the original song 'Crazy Love'. On the other hand, Wilson chose to sing David Allan Coe's 'Ride' as his cover track and then went on to perform his original song 'Blues Comin' On'. Both of his performances were positively received by the judging trio of Urban, Shelton, and 'Yellowstone' creator Taylor Sheridan. Finally, Sanders took to the mic to cover 'That Ain't No Way To Go' by Brooks & Dunn. His original song was called 'All Summer Long'. Sanders ultimately emerged victorious as the night's best singer, with Daniels and Wilson taking the runner-up position.
As per American Songwriter, as the winner of the show, Sanders will receive a $250,000 cash prize. This is in addition to a recording deal with Country Road Records, which is a part of 101 Studios and in association with Thirty Tigers. Moreover, Sanders will also be performing on the Mane Stage at the coveted and upcoming Stagecoach Country Music Festival in 2026. Additionally, Sanders will have the opportunity to perform at the Red Bull Jukebox and receive an exclusive prize pack from Red Bull.
Daniels and Wilson, as the runners-up of the debut season, will each receive five recording sessions at the Red Bull Studios in Los Angeles. The studio itself, according to a press release, is "a state-of-the-art recording space that includes a full range of instruments and cutting-edge equipment designed to empower artists and give wings to their ideas." All episodes of 'The Road' are available exclusively on CBS and Paramount+.
