LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Casa Grande' is a new limited series created by Ali Afshar and Lauren Swickard, produced by ESX Entertainment. The show, consisting of five one-hour episodes, has been picked up by Amazon Freevee for exclusive first-run US rights. 'Casa Grande' follows the lives of hardworking, often undocumented migrant workers in Northern California and the wealthy landowners they work for. ESX Entertainment, whose previous projects include 'A California Christmas' and 'I Believe in Santa', is making its debut in character drama with 'Casa Grande'.
The series explores themes of class, immigration, culture, and family, and offers an American take on the upstairs/downstairs story often found in turn-of-the-century English countryside settings. The show sheds light on the integral yet often overlooked labor of socially invisible migrant workers, who are employed, housed, and fed by the Clarkman Farm and its neighboring property, Dalton Farm, in Mendocino County. 'Casa Grande' provides a poignant and dramatic glimpse into the reality of the American dream and the sacrifices many immigrants make to pursue it. The show premieres on Amazon Freevee on May 1.
