LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Beau Is Afraid' is a surrealist horror comedy about a man named Beau, who is described as an anxious but decent-looking man, who embarks on an epic odyssey home to his mother after she dies. Beau's journey involves him confronting his deepest fears along the way.
Ari Aster, known for helming critically-acclaimed movies such as 'Midsommar' and 'Hereditary,' directed the film, wrote the screenplay, and co-produced 'Beau Is Afraid' with Lars Knudsen. A24 distributes the film, which was originally titled "Disappointment Blvd.," but was renamed "Beau Is Afraid." Elisa Alvares, Timo Argillander, Len Blavatnik, Danny Cohen, and Ann Ruark serve as executive producers on the film. 'Beau Is Afraid' is being touted as A24's most expensive film to date.

Ari Aster describes the movie as a "nightmare comedy." Joaquin Phoenix stars as Beau while Armen Nahapetian plays the teenage Beau. Patti LuPone plays Beau's mother. Other stars in the film include Nathan Lane as Roger, Amy Ryan as Grace, Kylie Rogers as Toni, Parker Posey as Elaine, Hayley Squires as young Elaine, Julia Antonelli as teenage Elaine, Denis Ménochet as Jeeves along with Stephen McKinley Henderson, Michael Gandolfini, and Richard Kind.
‘Beau Is Afraid’ will release theatrically in the United States on April 21.
