VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA: 'American Idol' Season 21 will premiere on February 19 and fans can't control their excitement. With Katy Perry, Luke Brian, and Lionel Richie as judges, America is eager to discover the next Idol. As usual, auditions were held in three cities: Nashville, New Orleans, and Las Vegas.

Thousands of individuals aspire to perform on the 'American Idol' stage, but only a select few get the chance. Tyson Venegas, a Filipino-Canadian singer-songwriter, has auditioned for the upcoming season and viewers will get to see him in the premiere. His music style is known for being jazz-based, but he has many influences. Some of his favorite artists are Lizzo, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Bruno Mars. Who is Tyson Venegas?

Born on August 31, 2005, Tyson began singing at age 3, and at the age of just 7, he became the youngest winner of the Canadian talent competition 'PNE Star Showdown'. Tyson competed in the second season of 'The Voice Teens' in the Philippines and turned three chairs with his Blind Audition performance. He sang Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” and the judges were impressed with his powerful rendition. 

Tyson has met quite a few celebrities, including musicians Sarah McLachlan, Michael Buble, and Thundercat, plus designer Teddy Santis. He has a brother, Paul Venegas, and lives in his hometown Vancouver. In 2016, Tyson performed at Carnegie Hall in New York. He appeared in 'Little Big Shots' in 2018. Though he is known for his Jazz-style singing, his favorite artists are Lizzo, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Bruno Mars. 



 

Tyson's debut in 'American Idol' Season 21

With his vast musical background, it’s no wonder Tyson decided to audition for season 21 of 'American Idol' this year. One of his favorite things about singing is being able to perform live. That’s why you’ll find so many quick clips on his Instagram page of him singing. While he often does covers, he has also released original music. 

Tyson took to Instagram to reveal he had auditioned for the show back in December 2022. He had captioned his post, "Oh hey… secret is out… I auditioned for @americanidol tune on February 19 to see how it went #americanidol #vegas #americanidolauditions." Viewers will have to wait for the show's premiere to catch his audition. 

'American Idol' season 21 debuts on February 19, at 8 pm ET/PT on ABC.
