Who is Amanda Taylor? HR manager speaks up against women being outnumbered in Netflix's 'Squid Game: The Challenge'
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: Player 019 aka Amanda Taylor, who currently works as an HR manager, hails from Liverpool, England. Previously, she served as a weapon engineer in the Royal Navy, challenging stereotypes and defying expectations.
Amanda noted that people often underestimate her, presuming she might fit into a particular stereotype. However, she takes pride in proving them wrong, showcasing her diverse skill set and experiences.
She recently expressed dissatisfaction with the dwindling number of female contestants in the later stages of the show 'Squid Game: The Challenge', noticing the increasing imbalance in favor of men.
Fueled by a desire to address this disparity, she took the initiative to create an alliance specifically for women. Amanda reached out to the remaining eight women in the competition, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and teamwork.
This initiative led to the formation of the women's group, a strategic move that was fruitful in the end.
Amanda Taylor felt betrayed as Jackie chose Phill Cain over other female contestants
Amanda took the initiative to form an alliance among the women on the show, aiming to ensure their mutual support throughout the competition. The alliance stipulated that the women had to choose each other or provide assistance and favor each other during challenging tasks.
However, when the challenge to pick an ally was announced, Amanda and the other women anticipated that Player 393 aka Jackie, the first woman from the group who was already selected, would choose a fellow female contestant.
Surprisingly, Jackie opted for Player 451 aka Phill Cain, citing him as her good friend, leaving Amanda and the other women disappointed and feeling betrayed.
Amanda Taylor is still friends with Bee and Mothi
Maintaining strong bonds beyond the show, Amanda remains on good terms with fellow contestants Player 018 aka Bee, and Player 200 aka Mothi. Their bond extends off-screen, showcasing their genuine friendship.
Amanda and Bee found themselves on the same page multiple times throughout the show, sharing moments of discontentment, particularly in the election of Player 182 aka TJ as captain.
Their alignment extended to strategic decisions, such as their joint initiative to form a women's alliance.
This shared understanding and collaboration highlighted the strength of their connection, contributing to a supportive dynamic between the two contestants on various occasions during the competition and outside of the show.
Amanda Taylor shares she has an eye for 'right and wrong'
Amanda shared a humorous anecdote about how her appearance in the workplace led to unexpected perceptions.
Recounting the incident, she mentioned arriving one day with a pink suitcase and a glitter dress, prompting some to bet that she wouldn't last longer than a week.
Contrary to expectations, Amanda not only persevered but also ended up in a leadership position. She emphasized that her journey to a leadership role wasn't a deliberate pursuit but rather a reflection of her personality.
"It wasn’t something I went out actively looking for or to do. It was just, I think, a part of my personality. I respect people, and I’ve got a good eye for what’s right and wrong, what we should be doing, and making good decisions, and I get stuck in," said Amanda.
'Squid Game: The Challenge' finale will be released on December 6 on Netflix.
