'Paradise' Season 2's highly anticipated finale, written by Seena Haddad and John Hoberg, dropped on March 30 on Hulu. The Dan Fogelman-created series has had fans buzzing with excitement and intrigue over the multiverse theory and questions about Alex's true purpose. Episode 8, titled 'Exodus,' picks up from the events of last week, where the bunker went into full meltdown, with people trapped inside. While the finale focuses on the rescue mission and doesn't tie up all the loose ends, it sets the characters on a new journey where they will continue to explore Alex's true powers.

The episode begins with a flashback from nine years ago, where Henry Miller, a quantum scientist and professor at Caltech, meets the boy genius, Link, and learns about his cutting-edge ideas involving quantum AI. With backing from the billionaire Sinatra, the two develop a quantum AI-powered supercomputer called Alex (named after Miller's wife) that solves the climate crisis, and also predicts the future. But that's not all Alex does, as the system begins veering into dangerous territory by attempting to manipulate time itself.

After Xavier's emotional reunion with his wife, Teri, in Episode 7, the couple travels to Colorado to save their children from the bunker, unaware of the danger they are in. They come to find that the oxygen levels inside the bunker are plummeting, while Link's militia group is preparing to launch an attack from the outside. Chaos ensues as the chance of survival seems next to zero. In Sinatra's absence, Gabriela steps up and initiates the Exodus protocol: a full-scale evacuation of the bunker. Sinatra and others have to get out in time and shut the doors of the bunker before it explodes, as it's built to withstand a nuclear explosion from outside as well as inside.

Sinatra volunteers to stay behind in the control tower and seal the bunker manually, essentially signing her death warrant. As the state-of-the-art structure begins to collapse around her, she looks around wistfully, watching her creation crumble to pieces. Amidst the chaos, Sinatra, Link, and Xavier catch up for a brief moment and arrive on the same page about Link being Sinatra's son, although the episode doesn't dive into the details. Link also learns that he fathered Annie's baby, whom he names Annie in the child's mother's honor. Since Alex is situated 100 miles away from the Colorado bunker, shutting down the computer seems like an impossible task, and moving the survivors to safety outside takes precedence. Link helps Xavier and Sinatra save their daughters, Presley and Hadley, respectively, who were trapped inside an elevator. Before the bunker implodes, a few survivors step into the outside world for the first time in years.

Xavier, Teri, their children Presley, James, Gabriela, Jeremy, Nicole, and Link are among the survivors. But their ordeal is not over yet. Before dying, Sinatra revealed the presence of a second bunker below the Denver airport while handing over the access codes to Xavier. Alex seemingly created two timelines, with a significant overlap between the two. Sinatra instructs Xavier to travel to the second bunker and shut down Alex, which is housed right below it. It's unclear how the merging of two timelines has affected the characters and the events seen so far, but Xavier is entrusted with figuring it out and making the right decision for humanity.

At the end of Season 2 of 'Paradise,' Xavier is called to navigate the next chapter in humanity's survival. Will he be an effective leader or succumb to the temptations of power and ultimate control, like Sinatra? The show has already been renewed for Season 3, and fans hope it will answer all the lingering mysteries from Season 2 and serve as the concluding chapter of the post-apocalyptic thriller series.
