'The Voice' 29 Episode 7 recap: 3 artists advance to the semi-finals as one coach earns a major advantage

The latest episode of the competition saw past winners return for an epic sing-off in the 'All-Star Showdown'

The latest episode of 'The Voice: Battle of Champions' saw the Knockouts continue and also featured the show's first-ever All-Star Showdown. It aired on April 6 on NBC and revealed the top three artists advancing to the next stage of the competition. On the second night of the Knockouts, CeeLo Green served as a Mega Mentor for Teams Adam and Legend, while Michael Bublé mentored contestants from Team Kelly. This round saw the artists perform solo and choose their own tracks. Moreover, there were no Steals or Saves in play, adding to the intensity of the competition. Jared Shoemaker, Mikenley Brown, and KJ Willis were chosen to move ahead to the semi-finals.

Team Adam's artists Jared Shoemaker and Jaali Boyd went head-to-head in Round 1 of the Knockouts. Jared sang 'Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde' by Travis Tritt and was chosen as the winner, as Jaali fell short with his performance of 'Big Girls Don’t Cry (Personal)' by Fergie. For Round 2, KJ Willis and Grace Humphries from Team Legend took the stage. KJ won the round with his rendition of 'I’ll Make Love to You' by Boyz II Men. Grace performed 'I Don’t Want to Wait' by Paula Cole. Meanwhile, Team Kelly's Mikenley Brown and Jonah Mayor competed in Round 3 of the Knockouts. Mikenley brought her A-game with 'Pink Pony Club' by Chappell Roan and advanced to the semi-finals. Jonah sang 'You’ll Be in My Heart' by Phil Collins. Sadly, it was the end of the road for Grace Humphries, Jaali Boyd, and Jonah Mayor. 

The episode also featured the much-awaited All-Star Showdown, which brought back six past contestants, two from each coach's past teams. They battled in head-to-head sing-offs to help their coaches gain a significant advantage in the finale. Green judged this competition, and the coach with the most All-Star wins got an attractive advantage: a second artist in the finale. The All-Star Showdown featured three rounds: Adam vs Kelly, Kelly vs John, and John vs Adam. Javier Colón (Season 1 winner) and Jordan Smith (Season 9 winner) represented Team Adam. Jake Hoot (Season 17 winner) and Girl Named Tom (Season 21 winner) represented Team Kelly, while Maelyn Jarmon (Season 16 winner) and Renzo (Season 27 contestant) represented Team Legend. Each artist performed songs they had previously sung during their season of 'The Voice,' and they were paired with artists from opposing teams. 

In the first round, Girl Named Tom (Team Kelly) competed against Renzo (Team Legend). The former performed a rendition of 'Dust in the Wind' by Kansas, and Renzo added his own spin to 'Dream On' by Aerosmith. In the end, Green chose Girl Named Tom as the winner, earning Team Kelly a head start. Round 2 saw Maelyn Jarmon (Team Legend) take on Jordan Smith (Team Adam). Jordan sang Sia's 'Chandelier,' while Maelyn went with Sting's 'Fields of Gold' and won the round for Team Legend. In Round 3, Jake Hoot (Team Kelly) went head-to-head with Javier Colón (Team Adam). Javier performed Cyndi Lauper's classic 'Time After Time,' while Jake chose Eagles' 1973 single 'Desperado' and won the showdown. In the end, Clarkson won 2–1-0 over Legend and Adam.
