Who built Money Pit and Lot 5? Viewers doubt 'The Curse of Oak Island' team's theory to link 2 stone structures

NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA: The crew behind 'The Curse of Oak Island' has unearthed compelling evidence suggesting the person who built the enormous, covert stone building on Lot 5 also created the Money Pit.

However, rather than supporting the hypothesis that the Lot 5 building served as a staging area or command center for burying riches at the Money Pit, the latest study has only served to confuse viewers of History.

In the Oak Island laboratory, Marty Lagina and Jack Begley met with archaeologist Laird Niven and archaeometallurgist Emma Culligan to obtain an update on the unexplained soil-like and clay-like materials that were recently found in two-stone foundations situated in Lot 5 in the middle of the island.

One of them boasts a rounded appearance near the coast, while the other takes on a rectangular shape and sits further inland. Both sites have produced intriguing hints, such as an iron spike that Emma speculated could be over 800 years old.

The clay-like soils unearthed in the circular feature surprisingly bear a striking resemblance to other soil samples found in the Money Pit location rather well, according to early studies. Emma scanned the soil discovered in Lot 5's characteristics using an X-ray diffraction instrument (XRD), which can determine a material's chemical makeup, to do more analysis.

Questioning their theory, one fan on X asked, "Clay on different areas of the island can’t be the same? I mean it’s 115 feet below the surface. Why couldn’t it be undisturbed material that makes up the island?" Another user chimed in, "Speaking as a series long Curse of Oak Island fan. This season has turned into the biggest dud. All these theories are starting to stretch, without discovery you have nothing. Borzo archeologists and no Gary? Great idea. No hope in the money pit?"

Frustrated viewers also write, "Who lived on lot 5 and can we hire a medium to summon their spirit so we can get some answers?" A fourth user quipped, "I would down for an episode entirely dedicated to interpreting “clues”."

Who dug the Oak Island Money Pit?

The Old Gold Salvage and Wrecking Company, which started excavating in 1909, was just one among several firms involved in excavations of the Money Pit and its surroundings starting from the early 1800s, according to Gordon Fader and Joy A Steele, authors of The Oak Island Mystery Solved.

Many treasure seekers believe they bore into a massive vault over a hundred feet deep in the Money Pit. Most of the items excavated from the pit's vicinity thus far hold greater historical value than monetary worth. Certain objects reveal intriguing hints of undiscovered riches, while others reveal brand-new mysteries.

Who sold Lot 5 on Oak Island?

Lot 5 is an island Robert S Young of Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia, bought from Fred Nolan in June 1996. Lot 5 is 4 acres (1.6 hectares) in size.

All but six of the lots on the island appear to be held directly by the Michigan Group; however, three are owned by Tom Nolan, the late Fred's son, and one is owned by Allan Kostrzewa, one of the show's producers.

In addition to finding early eighteenth-century objects like earthenware, the team that started studying it in 2022 calculated its diameter, which comes out to be thirteen feet. When the first Money Pit was found in 1795, reports stated that it had the same diameter.

What is Oak Island famous for?

One of the more than 300 islands that make up Mahone Bay is Oak Island, situated on the southern tip of Nova Scotia's Atlantic coast in Canada. The traditions and myths that have surfaced about the island since the late 18th century have led many people to assume that a huge treasure is hidden in the 140 acres covered in forests.
