'Whispers': Meet the cast of Netflix's first Saudi original thriller series featuring strong female characters
Netflix's first series from Saudi Arabia, 'Whispers', is about to hit the streaming service platform on June 11. 'Whispers' will follow a family dealing with the death of the family patriarch, Hassan. Just a few days before the launch of his new company's smart application, he dies in a car accident. Secrets about his mysterious past begin to surface and his wife, Amal, and their daughters, Wa'ad and Sawsan, will have to deal with the consequences while uncovering what really happened to Hassan.
The traditional mode of production for Arab dramas have them told in 30-episode formats so that they can run through Ramadan — a period that is considered best for ratings for regional broadcasters. However, 'Whispers' will consist of just eight episodes and will feature a predominantly Saudi cast and crew. The three women of Hassan's family — Amal, Wa'ad and Sawsan — will lead the drama along with other major female characters. Read on to know more about the people portraying these characters.
Shaimaa Al Fadl
Shaimaa Al Fadl is an Arab actress who makes her debut with 'Whispers'. She plays the role of Hassan's widow Amal who has to grapple with his death and all the secrets surrounding it. In an interview with UAE's The National, Al Fadl said, "Amal goes through a lot of emotions within each episode and, ultimately, I view her as a strong character because she deals with the situations in front of her."
Nada Tawhid
Nada Tawhid is an actress and director best known for her leading role in the short thriller film 'Hair: The Story of Grass'. She plays the role of Amal's daughter, the social media savvy Wa'ad.
Norah Al Anbar
Norah Al Anbar is an Arab actress known for 'Cut' and 'Unheard'. In 'Whispers', she plays Amal's daughter, Sawsan, a graphic designer.
Abdul Mohsen Alnimer
Abdul Mohsen Alnimer is a Saudi Arabian actor best known for his roles in 'Salamtek', 'Taam El-Ayaam', 'The 10 Sins' and 'Al-Dunia Lahtha'. He plays the role of Hassan. In an interview with UAE's The National, Alnimer said, "In a way, I look at my experience working on Whispers as similar to working on a film, and that gives me extra focus in what I do."
'Whispers' will be available to stream on Netflix on June 11 at 12 am PST.
