The 2026 Oscars ceremony, held on Sunday, featured a very prominent and powerful tribute to the late filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner. The tribute had been previously announced by host Conan O'Brien ahead of the telecast. This comes three months after Reiner and his wife, Michele, were killed at their Los Angeles home on December 14, 2025.

The tragedy occurred just a day after the couple attended O'Brien's birthday party, according to a TVInsider report. In the aftermath of Rob and Michele's death, their son Nick Reiner was arrested on the following day. Since then, he has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is currently in custody without bail. He has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear in court again on April 29.

The Rob Reiner tribute at the 2026 Oscars featured stars who had previously worked with the filmmaker. However, despite starring in Reiner's 1986 film 'Stand By Me', actor Corey Feldman recently claimed that he wasn't invited.

The tribute was led by Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal, the beloved duo who led Reiner's classic 1989 film 'When Harry Met Sally'. While the tribute took place during the In Memoriam segment, Crystal spoke about his late friend and colleague. Ryan, on the other hand, was on stage alongside other stars from Reiner's films.

Speaking in a pre-Oscars press conference, producer Katy Mullan had remarked, "I guess we can’t really go into detail of what it’s gonna be this year, but we really hope that it is a tribute that moves people and feels like it does the incredible people we’ve lost this year justice."

Feldman took to his X profile to claim he wasn't invited by the Oscars team to join the Rob and Michele Reiner tribute.

Feldman wrote, "I just want to briefly mention this Oscars thing! Yes, it’s true that I was not invited. I understand many believe it’s due to being outspoken about the abuse I suffered as a child and the campaign to silence me. However, this isn’t about me. It’s not my moment at all. It’s about the tragic loss of our friend Rob Reiner and his memory."

Feldman further claimed in his post that his 'Stand By Me' co-stars Wil Wheaton and Jerry O'Connell had been approached to be a part of the tribute, "As much I appreciate all support, it’s very sweet of you… but please stop. Please take down any petitions to push for my presence at the awards. They don’t need me there. Will and Jerry got this, I’m sure. They will do a fantastic job… I’ll honor Rob my own way."

The three actors are currently celebrating the 40th anniversary of their classic coming-of-age film directed by Reiner.
