‘Untamed’ is going off the mainland for Season 2 — and the next case won’t be easy to explain
Netflix has officially pulled the curtain back on major plans for ‘Untamed’ Season 2, and the biggest change comes down to geography. After spending its first outing inside Yosemite National Park, the thriller is heading thousands of miles away to Hawaii. There, both the story and filming will take place. Season 1 arrived on Netflix in July 2025 and then promptly refused to stay quiet. Eric Bana led the series as Kyle Turner, a national park special agent brought in to investigate the death of a young woman in Yosemite. What began as a case rooted in wilderness tragedy spiraled into something darker and messier.

Now, Season 2 is taking that familiar tension and dropping it into an entirely different environment. According to details shared with Deadline, the new chapter will be set at Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, a location that comes with its own personality, pressure, and unpredictability. Instead of icy cliffs and towering sequoias, Turner will find himself surrounded by active volcanoes, and a close-knit community that doesn’t easily welcome outsiders. The case itself? Another death. Not an ordinary one. The kind that raises questions immediately and refuses to provide simple answers.
Turner will once again lead the investigation, but this won’t feel like a repeat mission with better scenery. The danger here isn’t only human. Nature plays a role, and not a gentle one. Netflix has confirmed the second season will run for six episodes, matching the tight, focused structure of the first. Filming is scheduled to begin in spring 2026, giving the production team time to fully lean into the look and feel of the islands. Lava flows. Dense greenery. Showrunners Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith shared that, “We’re excited to explore the pristine landscapes and cultural identity of a very different national park, and find Turner in a new state of mind, outside the comfort of Yosemite.”
By the time Season 1 wrapped, Turner had nothing left tying him to Yosemite. The finale delivered a brutal chain of events, including Shane Maguire’s death and Paul Souter taking his own life after killing his own daughter. It was heavy. Final. And yet, it somehow felt like an ending that was also a beginning. Netflix clearly saw the potential. The streamer renewed ‘Untamed’ just days after its debut. Also, the show landed in Netflix’s Top 10 list for weeks and ranked among the platform’s most-watched series of 2025, as per ScreenRant. Audiences leaned in. Reviews followed. The series currently sits at a strong 83 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Bana is officially confirmed to return, stepping back into Turner’s boots for Season 2. His involvement goes beyond acting as well, as he continues his role as an executive producer. Bana’s filmography spans everything from ‘Black Hawk Down’ and ‘Hulk’ to ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Dirty John’. What remains unclear is who will join him this time around. Season 1 featured a stacked supporting cast that included Sam Neill, Rosemarie DeWitt, Lily Santiago, Wilson Bethel, and several others. Many of those characters didn’t survive the story, which means Season 2 will almost certainly introduce a fresh lineup of faces. As of now, Netflix hasn’t announced a premiere date.
