Dylan O'Brien's ‘Send Help’ is now available to watch at home but there's an unexpected twist
Sam Raimi, the filmmaker behind ‘The Evil Dead’, slipped back into horror territory this year after a long break. His latest film, ‘Send Help,’ arrived earlier in January and quickly got people talking, as it does not fully behave as the kind of story fans may expect from him. In the movie, Rachel McAdams plays an overlooked employee stuck under her awful boss (Dylan O’Brien), until a plane crash leaves them stranded. He’s left injured and helpless, while she unexpectedly takes charge, helped by years of obsessing over ‘Survivor’. But here’s the thing everyone’s been asking ever since the film hit theaters: Where can you actually watch it now without heading out to a cinema? Well, that wait did not stretch on too long.
‘Send Help’ has officially landed on premium video-on-demand platforms. Viewers can now purchase it digitally through services like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Vudu as of March 24. On Amazon, for example, the price sits at $29.99; however, that number can shift slightly depending on where you buy it. For those who prefer something more tangible, or maybe just enjoy stacking physical copies on a shelf, there’s more coming down the pipeline. The film is set to arrive on 4K Ultra HD and DVD on April 21, and the home release won’t just be a barebones drop either. According to the official press release, it will include “over two hours of bonus content that takes audiences deeper behind the scenes of Sam Raimi’s twisted survival thriller.”
Now, let’s get to the bigger question hovering over all of this: streaming. That's because buying a movie outright is not everyone’s thing anymore, and let’s be honest, most viewers would rather wait a bit and catch it as part of a subscription they are already paying for. So, will ‘Send Help’ land on a streaming service? All signs point to yes, and the likely destination is Hulu. The film comes from 20th Century Studios, which operates under the umbrella of The Walt Disney Company. And while Disney+ might seem like the obvious home, many titles from this studio, especially darker or more mature, tend to appear on Hulu instead.
That said, it’s not there yet. If past release patterns are anything to go by, there’s usually a gap between theatrical runs, digital purchase availability, and eventual streaming access. A recent comparison point is another 20th Century Studios title, ‘Ella McCay’, which was first available in theaters, then digital platforms a couple of months later, and finally, a streaming debut roughly three months after its initial release. If ‘Send Help’ sticks to a similar timeline, viewers might see it on Hulu sometime in late April or early May. However, it is important to note that the release window and OTT platform are not confirmed yet.
