When will 'Send Help' release? Rachel McAdams' gritty thriller teases new images with 'Teen Wolf' star
A soft-spoken and often overlooked office employee's life literally turns upside down once she finds herself stranded on a deserted island following a devastating plane crash. The catch? She's not the only one and is accompanied by her office boss. Keep in mind that this is the same boss who couldn't stand her and wanted to oust her from the company. However, the tables have turned now. The first look trailer for Sam Raimi's upcoming psychological horror and survival thriller movie 'Send Help' is based on such a plot, and features Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien in the leading roles of Linda Liddle and Bradley Preston, respectively.
If Bradley thought that the plane crash was the worst curveball that life could throw at him, he was sorely mistaken. He is now trapped on an island with his most-hated co-worker, and guess what, Linda, apart from being a skilled employee at the consulting firm, is also a natural survivalist and, as per ScreenRant, is very effective with a spear! The trailer browses through several moments of Linda making a makeshift shelter on the island with whatever resources are at hand, fishing in a nearby stream with her spear, and making sure that Bradley remembers that they're no longer in the office and that he's no longer her boss.
Raimi has been a respected horror director, and his last venture in this genre was the 2009 film 'Drag Me To Hell'. He recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss 'Send Help'. He revealed the reason why he was drawn to the screenplay when he said, "I found the two lead characters, Linda and Bradley, to be complex, human, and constantly at odds with each other in often conflicting situations. The pitch was outrageous and original, all the while tracking these two in their conflict as their power dynamic changed dramatically. I knew right away that I wanted to direct this picture."
The trailer further depicts the complexity of the relationship between Linda and Bradley, as at one point she's seen feeding him from a coconut as he lies wounded. While Bradley wants to leave the island and be rescued desperately, Linda has somehow made peace with the fact that help might not be coming after all. Raimi further noted that the element of the underdog getting back at her office bully in the movie was too good to let go of, "What I really love about this story is that it's an underdog tale at its core. Not only is it about survival on a deserted island, but it's also a story of female empowerment and transformation."
"Watching a once-powerful boss find himself dependent on someone he underestimated is satisfying." The 'Evil Dead' director commented, "Our story is universal! We need to encourage our society to treat people with respect and kindness, regardless of status. It's especially rewarding to see our heroine, Linda, come into her own in such an unexpected environment." 'Send Help' is written by Mark Swift and Damian Shannon and will be released exclusively in theatres on January 30, 2026.
