Henry Cavill wows with exclusive first look photos from 'Highlander' reboot and honestly we're buzzing
After being in the pipeline for several years, things are finally looking up for the upcoming 'Highlander' reboot movie. 'Witcher' star Henry Cavill, who will be seen in the upcoming reboot as Connor McLeod, recently took to his Instagram profile to share two exclusive first-look images. The 'Highlander' reboot was first teased back in 2021 but was subsequently bogged down with several delays, the most notable among which was attributed to Cavill's injury, sustained while preparing for his role, per Collider.
Cavill captioned the first look photos with the encouraging lines, "Happy First Look for Highlander! This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to share this. I hope you enjoy. #Highlander”. The film's casting process began in 2025, and Russell Crowe soon came on board to play Ramirez, the role portrayed by Sean Connery in the original movie.
The other members of the cast include Dave Bautista as The Kurgan, Marisa Abela as Brenda, Karen Gillan as Heather, and Jeremy Irons as the leader of The Watchers. Although a release window hasn't yet been announced, one might expect the movie to hit theatres sooner rather than later, as the cast and crew are dead serious about the project. This is evident in that, despite the prolonged delays, Cavill, Stahelski, and the other members of the team have consistently maintained their commitment.
While the plot details are yet to be revealed, Movie Web previously reported that Cavill's character, McLeod, would confront his haunting past as he joined the bid to win the elusive 'Prize'. The rest of the synopsis reads, "Centuries after his first death on a Scottish battlefield, immortal warrior Connor MacLeod lives quietly in the modern world, haunted by loss and the endless cycle of violence among his kind. When the ruthless immortal Kurgan resurfaces, backed by a secret organization bent on unlocking the secret of eternal life, Connor is forced back into the Game - an ancient battle where 'there can be only one.''
Stahelski is known for his realistic, perfectly orchestrated action sequences, and Cavill is leaving no stone unturned to ensure he lives up to the character. The first-look images depict him in a fashionable trench coat against a dark, foreboding backdrop. In keeping with his remarkable dedication, Cavill's efforts were recognized by Bautista when the latter commented on the 'Superman' star's inexhaustible energy, "I know how hard it is, how awful. This is really, really hard. It's really hard, and watching that dude grind daily, and this was like before the injury, because we were training every day. He's easily not only one of the hardest actors I've ever seen work, but he's also a real gentleman." One can speculate that 'Highlander' will be released sometime in 2027.
