Prime Video drops trailer for 'The Boys' Season 5 and here's when you can stream Billy Butcher's last fight
The long wait for the fifth and final season of 'The Boys' is finally over. On Thursday, Prime Video dropped a new teaser trailer for the upcoming fifth instalment, further revealing that the Season 5 will release on April 8. The premiere will see the first two episodes arriving together, followed by a new episode releasing every week till the finale on May 20. The teaser also illustrated Homelander's obsession with immortality and the presence of 'Gen-V' stars.
Anthony Starr's Homelander has a fixation with establishing his ultimate authority. As tensions and resistance mount against him, the teaser trailer shows him chasing immortality with V-One, defined as the first iteration of Compound-V. This is the same serum that produces supes. On the other hand, the trailer also confirmed that London Thor and Jazz Sinclair will appear in the final season of the Prime Video show, as they were seen speaking with Annie January, aka Starlight, played by Erin Moriarty. We also see Homelander seeking help from his biological father, Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles, to defeat Billy Butcher, played by Karl Urban. It is worth noting that the latter took a temporary dose of Compound-V and developed a cancerous tumour which eventually led to him assuming supe powers.
The trailer ends with a haunting shot of Homelander sitting in the Oval Office. The official logline of Season 5 reads, "In the fifth and final season, it’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a 'Freedom Camp.' Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it. It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen."
Speaking in a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 'The Boys' creator Eric Kripke had revealed that Season 5 would largely feature resistance to a fascist regime as a central underlying theme. He had mentioned, "They’re trying to mount a real push, but they’re also outgunned, outmanned. You’re in an entire country that has drunk Homelander’s Kool-Aid. They’re outmatched by the size of the hundreds of superheroes that are in every town across the country, who have been given authority over the police. So it really is a true underground resistance against a fascist government."
'The Boys' is adapted from the comic series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Both of them serve as executive producers on the show alongside Kripke. The other executive producers include Seth Rogen, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Phil Sgriccia, Michaela Starr, Evan Goldberg, Paul Grellong, David Reed, Judalina Neira, Ori Marmur, Ken F. Levin, Jason Netter, Jessica Chou, and Gabriel Garcia.
