'Swapped' finally gets release date as Michael B. Jordan gears up to voice an adorable woodland creature
After the success of 'Sinners,' Michael B. Jordan is now gearing up for the release of his next film. Netflix's upcoming animated adventure comedy 'Swapped' sees the 39-year-old star voice the leading character, a woodland creature. The streamer announced that the film will drop on May 1 and shared the first-look images from the upcoming title. Jordan will voice Ollie, a small woodland sea otter-like creature known as a Pookoo. The mammal ends up magically switching places with a beautiful bird named Ivy (voiced by Juno Temple), forcing the duo to team up for a wild adventure.
Produced by Skydance Animation, the movie's logline states that it is "A buddy comedy about a small woodland creature (voiced by Michael B. Jordan) and a majestic bird (voiced by Juno Temple) — natural sworn enemies of The Valley — who suddenly swap bodies and must team up (while walking in each other’s feathers and fur) to survive the wildest adventure of their lives." The film's voice cast also includes Justina Machado as Ollie's mother, Calli, Táta Vega as Ollie's grandma, Ambika Mod as Ivy's sister, Violet, Lolly Adefope as Ivy's other sister, Lily, Tracy Morgan as a fish called Boogle, and Cedric the Entertainer as a Pookoo called Caloo. 'Swapped' is directed by Nathan Greno, who also helmed Disney's 'Tangled' (2010), adding anticipation to the upcoming release. Furthermore, the movie's screenplay is co-written by John Whittington, Robert Snow, and Christian Magalhaes. The trio also came up with the story with Greno and Adam Karp.
Greno gave fans a glimpse into what they can expect from the movie. "Swapped is a body swap movie unlike anything audiences have seen before. In this world, the creatures of the valley exist on a spectrum between plant and animal, creating a wild ecosystem. At the center of the film is the smallest creature in the valley, voiced by Michael B. Jordan, who suddenly finds himself swapped into a completely different body and thrust into a massive, unpredictable world that turns his entire life upside down and forces him to experience life from a completely different perspective," the film's director told Tudum. Jordan has earned widespread praise and an Oscar nomination for his dual role as the brothers Elijah 'Smoke' and Elias 'Stack' Moore in Ryan Coogler's vampire period drama, 'Sinners.' No wonder fans are looking forward to his next project and will delight in this sweet, family-oriented comedy when it releases on May 1.
