Do you feel the Schwartz is still with you? Well, buckle up, for 'Spaceballs 2' might be here sooner than you think. The highly anticipated sequel to the 1987 classic film has been in the pipeline for a long time. Written, directed, and produced by Mel Brooks, 'Spaceballs' (1987) gave birth to an endearing subculture of space opera parody. The influential film continues to find new fans among audiences to this date, and it is this very diaspora of disciples of the Schwartz that 'Spaceballs 2' aims to entertain. Now, producer and co-writer Josh Gad has confirmed that filming of the sequel is finally over, ScreenRant reported.

Gad recently took to his Facebook profile to share the good news. Given that the film entered the production phase as late as September this year, it is quite a marvel that the crew managed to finish filming so quickly. Gad himself lauded the short timespan, referring to it as "ludicrous speed". The post, which generated huge interest and invited numerous comments and likes, further recalled Gad approaching Brooks three years earlier with the idea of the sequel. Not only was Gad spellbound when Brooks agreed to the sequel being made, but he was also honoured to have the veteran filmmaker join forces with him.

Gad further mentioned director Josh Greenbaum, who has helmed the sequel, and offered his respects. As per a report by Parade, he continued, "This movie has been the greatest creative experience of my entire life. I cannot wait to share it with you all. This entire crew was one for the ages, and every single department and department head transcended our greatest expectations."

The cast of 'Spaceballs 2' would be a medley between returning players from the original movie, as well as a few new faces. Of course, no mention of the space parody is complete without mentioning the legendary actor Rick Moranis. Known for playing memorable comic roles in films such as 'Honey, I Shrunk The Kids' and 'Big Bully', Moranis was on a prolonged hiatus for several years until he picked up his acting boots once again for the sequel. Similarly, Brooks himself would be reprising his role as President Skroob and Yogurt, ensuring that the audience never runs out of laughter.

Amazon has listed the names of the new cast members, aside from Gad. Lewis Pullman, Keke Palmer, and Anthony Carrigan would be seen in yet undisclosed roles on the upcoming sequel. Although plot details are being tightly kept under wraps by the producers, the film has been described as "A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film." 'Spaceballs 2' is expected to hit the theatres sometime in 2027.
