'Scream 7' to drop new trailer on Super Bowl Sunday ahead of franchise's first IMAX run
When it comes to the upcoming horror thriller 'Scream 7', Paramount is not taking any chances. The Hollywood Reporter says that the studio has settled for a Super Bowl release of the trailer for 'Scream 7'. This is in addition to a landmark event in the franchise's history; the seventh film would be the first one to be released in IMAX screens. By this point, it is known that a new Ghostface killer will rise to prominence in the upcoming movie and continue to haunt the terrified protagonists.
'Scream 7' is expected to feature Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, a role which she played across all the movies except 2023's 'Scream VI'. The Ghostface killer fixates upon Prescott and her young daughter, Tatum, played by Isabella May. It is interesting to note that the character's name is a nod to Sidney's friend Tatum (portrayed by Rose McGowan), who was killed by the Ghostface killer. The two characters are also tied together by the fact that Prescott's daughter is about the same age as her friend once was before meeting her violent death, as per Slash Film.
Kevin Williamson has directed the seventh entry in the franchise after working as a writer on the movies 'Scream', 'Scream 2', and 'Scream 4'. Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt have written the screenplay. In addition to Prescott teaching her daughter the ways and means with which to survive in the film's unrelenting world, Courteney Cox will reprise her character of journalist Gale Weathers. The rest of the cast includes David Arquette as Dewey Riley. Matthew Lillard, who played one of the original Ghostface killers, is set to return as Stu Macher. On the other hand, Scott Fowley, of 'Scream 3' fame, will also be seen in the upcoming movie.
Then there's Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, who played the siblings Chad and Mindy in the revival films. This does not mean that 'Scream 7' won't have any new faces in the cast, and their names include Ethan Embry, Mark Consuelos, Jimmy Tatro, Celeste O’Connor, Michelle Randolph, Joel McHale, Anna Camp, McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, and Asa Germann. The film has been executive produced by Tyler Gillett, Chad Villella, and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, representing Radio Silence.
Speaking in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lillard had opened up about his feelings for 'Scream 7', ruminating that it felt like "a gamble" when he said, "There was so much anxiety, so much fear, so much insecurity about stepping back into something that, frankly—and it's yet to be determined—could go really poorly, I mean, if people hate the movie, hate me, hate Stu, question why I came back, all of that weighs on me heavily… It's a gamble of legacy. I wouldn't want to hurt the legacy at all. And if I thought it would, I wouldn't be here." 'Scream 7' releases exclusively in theatres on February 27, 2026.
