'Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man' drops first teaser with Cillian Murphy returning as Tommy Shelby
Back in 2022, when the sixth season of 'Peaky Blinders' ended with the iconic Birmingham gangster turned Member of the British Parliament Tommy Shelby faking his own death, little did one expect that his resurrection from the dead four years down the line would be met with such fanfare. The recently released first teaser for the upcoming Netflix spin-off film 'Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man' has just made it certain that Christmas turns a bit brighter and merrier for all concerned fans.
The teaser finds Academy Award Winner Cillian Murphy's Tommy Shelby in the aftermath of his faking his own death. Initially, he appears as a shadow of his former self, moving through lonely meadows and corridors, inhabiting a self-imposed exile. A voice off camera then poses the question, "Whatever happened to Tommy Shelby, the famous gypsy gangster?" As Tommy reluctantly declares that he isn't that man anymore, the teaser cuts to jarring scenes of violence ranging from what appears to be a Nazi gathering to blaring explosions and machine gun fire.
The upcoming film is slated to release in select theatres on March 6, followed by its global release on Netflix on March 20. The official synopsis reads, "Amidst the chaos of WWII, Tommy Shelby is driven back from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet. With the future of the family and the country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons and choose whether to confront his legacy or burn it to the ground. By order of the Peaky Blinders…"
Almost the entirety of the familiar cast is set to reprise their roles on the upcoming film, in addition to a few new additions. Sophie Rundle will once again be seen as Tommy's sister, Ada Thorne. Ned Dennehy will appear as Charlie Strong alongside Stephen Graham's Hayden Stagg. The rest of the cast includes Rebecca Ferguson, Ian Peck, Tim Roth, Packy Lee, Barry Keoghan, and Jay Lycurgo, as per Collider. Murphy had previously shared his excitement at the prospect of once again roaming around the dark industrial neighbourhood of Birmingham in character, in a June 2024 interview with Variety. "It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me…It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of ‘Peaky Blinders.’ This is one for the fans."
The saga of the Shelby family and the notorious Birmingham crime syndicate will be here for a while, as a sequel series is reportedly on the cards. Creator Steven Knight is once again at the helm of the potential show which Murphy executive produces. The official synopsis reads, "Britain, 1953. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel. In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger, with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.” All episodes of 'Peaky Blinders' are available for streaming on Netflix.
