'NCIS: Origins' Season 2 is just a few days away from its conclusion, with the penultimate episode scheduled to be released on April 28, 2026. The episode, titled 'Rule 13,' will deal with the NIS team investigating a car explosion. In the teaser for the episode, Lala and Wheeler narrowly escape the blast. However, one person does not share the same fate. As per a clip obtained by TVInsider, Doug Westmont, whom no one in the department likes, has been killed in the explosion. As the team works to solve the case, they plan to visit Westmont's office to discuss his timeline and enemies, narrowing down the investigation. Franks added that since he's a lawyer, they should "block out the whole damn day to talk enemies." The official synopsis of Episode 17 reads, "Wheeler takes command when a car bomb goes off outside NIS headquarters; the truth about Franks' distaste for lawyers is revealed."

While the episode is sure to have some intense moments, the sneak peek hints at a few unexpected light interactions as well. The video sees Gibbs and Wheeler get into a fight with a group of thugs in what looks like a gun shop. When a furious Mary Jo confronts the officers, asking, "What the hell are you thinking?" Gibbs and Wheeler hilariously respond in unison like children, "They started it." This tone is a regular part of the NCISverse, but 'NCIS: Origins' is known for a darker tone, dealing with Gibbs' mental condition and grief after the death of his wife and daughter.

Gibbs' personal life was upended again after Diane walked out on him in the previous episode. The couple had been trying to make a long-distance marriage work, but it all fell apart. Franks and Randy try to console Gibbs in their own way in the promo for the upcoming episode. "We heard about you and Diane," Randy says. "We know it must have been hard to watch her walk out the door, but we’re all here for you, man. Marriages end every second. One just ended right now in Cleveland, I’m sure." While it's unclear how much comfort this interaction brings him, this separation may provide an opening for him and Lala to give things another shot.

The title of the upcoming episode suggests that another rule will be added to Gibbs' rule box. In the previous episode, his father handed it over to him after he had discarded it. How the investigation will unfold and what new rule will be added to the box will be revealed on Tuesday, April 28, at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.
