He needs Dr Now's assistance, but with his brother providing everything for him, is he too comfortable to make the trip to Houston?
What happened in 'My 600-lb Life' Season 12 Episode 6?
Shakyia Jackson lived with her mother Natasha, stepfather, sister Shaniqua, and her three children. To meet with Dr Now, Shakyia was driven to Houston, Texas, over the course of three days by Shaniqua and Shakyia's friend Delilah.
However, once Shakyia got back home, things changed drastically. She seemed to disappear for months after missing her two-month follow-up meeting with Dr Now, during which he had set a target for her to lose fifty pounds.
Upon eventually reestablishing contact with Shakyia, Dr Now discovered that she had experienced respiratory failure. She recalls going to bed one night and waking up the next morning on a ventilator and using a walker to move about.
She informed Dr Now that her mother had booted her out, and she was placed in hospice care. She was living alone in an extended-stay motel after leaving hospice care, and it didn't seem like anyone was trying to help her.
Shakyia's original network of support, which consisted of her family and friend Delilah, seemed to vanish from view. Shakyia struggled greatly yet persisted in working with Dr Now.
Shakyia failed to show up for the therapy sessions, even though he tried to get her connected with one. Shakyia dropped 21 pounds in more than a year, falling short of Dr Now's target weight loss of 50 pounds.
Dr Now finally dropped her from his program due to her lack of dedication, telling her that if she could get back on track and lose those 50 pounds, she could get in touch with him, and he would be happy to take her on as a patient once again.
