Steven Spielberg's hush-hush UFO movie gets Times Square debut with mysterious new poster
There was a time when director Steven Spielberg's name was almost synonymous with the science fiction genre. Soon after breaking out on the scene with his legendary 'Jaws' (1975), the acclaimed filmmaker set out to carve a niche for himself with sci-fi films such as 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' (1977) and 'E.T. - The Extra Terrestrial' (1982). In more recent years, he helmed the movie 'A.I. Artificial Intelligence' (2001), 'Minority Report' (2002), and 'Ready Player One' (2018). In an interesting turn of events, Screen Rant has confirmed that Spielberg is gearing up to release his next sci-fi movie in June 2026. The build-up to the release has already started gathering momentum, with the appearance of a huge, mysterious billboard overlooking Times Square in New York.
DiscussingFilm came up with a photo of the promotional billboard that gives off an eerie first impression. A huge upside-down face is superimposed on a dark background, with the words "All will be disclosed" etched on the margins alongside Spielberg's name and the official release date of the movie. The film, which was previously rumored to be titled 'The Dish' and 'Disclosure' as per ComicBookMovie, was initially set to hit theaters on May 15, 2026, before it settled upon the current release date.
The plot of the film is being tightly kept under wraps as of now. Gold Derby reported that a recently held event at the Universal Studios lot, where Spielberg was being honored by having a new theatre named after him, an exclusive sneak peek at footage from the upcoming film was screened for a closed audience. The film is based on an original idea from Spielberg and is reportedly about UFOs. The film's confirmed cast includes Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Josh O'Connor, Colman Domingo, Eve Hewson, Wyatt Russell, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes.
As per the footage, Blunt is depicted as a woman living in a rural backdrop, which is soon threatened by pursuing government agents in black SUVs. O'Connor's character was then shown entangled in a dramatic showdown while being trapped in a car in the way of an approaching train. Firth was seen inside an underground bunker of some sort. The upcoming film unites Spielberg with several of his long-time collaborators. Screenwriter David Koepp, who is the man behind the screenplays of 'Jurassic Park' and 'War of the Worlds', has worked on the screenplay of the upcoming UFO movie. He is joined by producer Kristie Macosko Krieger, who previously worked on 'Bridge of Spies' and 'The Fabelmans'. Lastly, veteran composer and Spielberg movie staple John Williams is also in the mix.
Koepp has shared his own insights about the film while speaking in an interview with Deadline at the world premiere of 'Jurassic World: Rebirth', when he said, "We finished shooting about three weeks ago. I think it looks fantastic. Honestly, what he does so brilliantly is he combines a vast spectacle with really honest human emotion. Unlike, I think any other director. It's a very emotional experience, this movie." The film is scheduled to release on June 12, 2026, and its trailer will start playing alongside 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' in theatres.
