‘Hazbin Hotel’ spinoff locks Season 3 window, but the release plan isn’t what fans are used to this time
Fans of ‘Helluva Boss’ have something new to look forward to. Prime Video has officially confirmed that the series will return for a third season, along with a new release plan. Instead of sticking to a single drop or a steady trickle of episodes, the upcoming season will be split into two parts. The first set is set to land this fall, while the second batch of episodes are scheduled to arrive later in 2027. The announcement was paired with a brief preview of what’s coming next. For anyone just catching up, ‘Helluva Boss’ centers on a group that runs a rather unusual business. The story follows Immediate Murder Professionals, often shortened to I.M.P. It’s a small company based in Hell that takes on revenge jobs for clients who want payback in the human world.
Leading the operation is Blitzo, voiced by Brandon Rogers. His team includes Moxxie (Richard Horvitz), alongside Millie and the hellhound Loona, both voiced by Erica Lindbeck. Using a magical book, the crew hops between worlds to carry out their contracts, which usually leads to messy and often hilarious outcomes. The announcement itself came through social media, where Prime Video described the new season as “so big, it needed two parts.” Splitting a season like this usually means there is a lot packed into it, and the episode count backs that up. Season 3 is expected to include around 15 episodes, which is a jump compared to earlier runs. The first season had eight episodes, while the second stretched to twelve, so this marks the largest batch so far.
This approach did not come out of nowhere. Vivienne Medrano had previously hinted that changes were on the table. During earlier discussions, she mentioned that the team had been considering grouping episodes together instead of releasing them one by one. Now, that plan seems to be fully in motion. The journey of ‘Helluva Boss’ has been a bit different compared to most animated shows. It originally launched on YouTube back in 2019, where it built a loyal following through free episode drops. Over time, the series expanded its reach and eventually made its way to Prime Video, where viewers can now find uncensored versions of the first two seasons.
The show is set in the same shared world as ‘Hazbin Hotel’ and serves as a spin-off from that series. While both series started online, ‘Hazbin Hotel’ took a slightly different route. Its pilot episode gained massive attention after being uploaded to YouTube in October 2019, which led to it being picked up by A24 and later released as a full series on Prime Video in 2024. ‘Helluva Boss’, on the other hand, continued independently for a longer time before making a similar jump to streaming. Even though the two shows share a setting often referred to as the ‘Hellaverse’, they focus on different characters and storylines.
