During the Monday, May 29 ‘Wheel of Fortune’ broadcast, host Pat Sajak was at a loss for words when champion Jeff Powell won the ultimate grand prize. Jeff Powell is a 'Star Wars' fan and a dentist working at Sherwood Smile. He was the perfect stomper for ‘Wheel of Fortune’s’ Star Wars-themed episode on Memorial Day. The 76-year-old made it to the bonus round and solved the puzzle within three seconds, winning a grand $100,000. Throughout the game, Jeff won $123,646, leaving Pat stunned with a rare winning.

Pat Sajak stunned into silence
During the Memorial Day broadcast, the game show hosted a Star Wars-themed episode with contestants Jeff, Annie, and Mayla. While Jeff had an impeccable night, scoring $23,646 in the last round just before the bonus game. As Jeff progressed to the bonus round after outnumbering his co-contestants Annie and Mayla with $3,900 and $5,000, he spun the famous Wheel of Fortune which will decide his fate.
As usual, Pat gave the contestant the standard letters- R, S, T, L, N, and E to use for solving the bonus puzzle. He asked Jeff to choose three consonants and a vowel which were D, G, and Y, and the vowel, A. Pat’s co-host Vanna White placed the letters in the puzzle on the board. As Vanna finished updating the board, Jeff’s puzzle demonstrated achievement as the phrase was almost spelled completely with only two missing letters. Within three seconds, Jeff solved the puzzle by saying, “Stay afloat”.
Pat tapped on Jeff’s shoulder and gave him a moment to cherish his success before revealing the prize on the card, as the audience cheers in the back. After Pat turns the card around, Jeff exclaimed, “Oh my gosh!” Pat then showed the audience the $100K printed on the card. Jeff’s wife rushed to the stage and hugged him, congratulating him on the spectacular win. Jeff’s historic win was celebrated with confetti ejected from the ceiling.
In total, Jeff took home $123,646, including the last round and the bonus round. His win was not only a pivotal moment but also a rare occurrence of Pat being unable to articulate.
Pat Sajak’s temper flares up
In one of the episodes, Pat shouted at a contestant named Nicole and said, “Please solve the darn puzzle!” after he tried to wrestle a contestant to the ground in another episode. Nicole, a Georgia-based contestant debuting in acting and working at a healthcare company, kept spinning the wheel. The question in the puzzle was under the category- “Same Name”, to which she guessed quite a few letters in a row. However, she spun multiple times and guessed only one letter at a time, almost leaving her bankrupt. When the puzzle read, “COCONUT & COU_ _ SYRUP”, she said, “Ok, um, I’m gonna solve it”. To this, frustrated Pat screamed, “Please, solve the darn puzzle!” The audience seemed to take it as a joke with a laugh, however, they went silent realizing he was serious. Nicole finally guessed it correctly as “Coconut & Cough Syrup” and jumped to $11.6K.
