With the end of its sophomore season, 'Maxton Hall' has been taking audiences on a rollercoaster ride in terms of its narrative crests and troughs. The finale of the second season saw the leading characters—Ruby Bell, played by Harriet Herbig-Matten, and James Beaufort, played by Damien Hardung, at their lowest to date. Everything seems to be currently going wrong on 'Maxton Hall', with Ruby's suspension from the coveted private school and James embarking on his path of rebellion against the other members of his family. At this juncture, one question remains in everyone's mind: Will James and Ruby reunite in season 3? And some leaked pictures might have the answer.
Ever since 'Maxton Hall' first started airing in 2024, the teen romance show has been lauded for its heart-warming characterizations. On one hand, there's James with all his swanky wealth and family lineage. On the other hand, there's Ruby, the proverbial underdog who dreams of making it big at Oxford and survives on a scholarship at the elite private school. The first season saw them develop passionate feelings for each other that eventually resulted in shared moments of intimacy. The second season, apart from presenting Ruby and James with countless roadblocks, saw them picking up the pieces in the aftermath of their intimate episode.
The third season of 'Maxton Hall' was officially greenlit way back in June 2025. However, the sophomore season, despite featuring praiseworthy performances from the leading pair, fetched some criticism for its excessively dark tone and slower pace. In a major twist in 'Maxton Hall' Season 2, Mortimer Beaumont pulled the rug from under Ruby's scholarship, forcing her to beg Principal Lexington to allow her to take another exam.
Unfortunately, Ruby got involved in a scandal with Professor Sutton, who was subsequently arrested for his affair with Lydia. While Ruby kept avoiding James, the hammer eventually came crushing down on her when she was suspended from school, and her Oxford dream was jeopardised. But despite insurmountable odds, Ruby and James will, most likely, reunite in 'Maxton Hall' Season 3. As per a report by Pop Rant, a leaked photo from the set of the third season features Ruby and James locked in a passionate embrace at Oxford.
Ceylan Yildirim, the head writer for the show, also indicated towards such a possibility in a recent interview with Deadline. Speaking about the character arcs of James and Ruby, Yildirim explained, "By the end of the season, the dynamic between Ruby and James, torn between their backgrounds and influences, changes into a relationship based on mutual respect and understanding for each other's circumstances. They begin to recognize each other's strengths and weaknesses and allow time and space for their respective development, which makes their love more complex and tangible for a young audience."
