LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Sweet Tooth' Season 3 is set to be released on Netflix on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

'Sweet Tooth' follows the journey of Gus (Christian Convery), a boy with deer-like features, as he ventures out of his forest home in search of his mother.

Based on Jeff Lemire's acclaimed comic book series, 'Sweet Tooth' is set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a mysterious pandemic that has devastated civilization.

Ahead of the premiere of the upcoming season, let's discuss the key events of Season 2 and speculate on what might occur in Season 3.

What happened in 'Sweet Tooth' Season 2?

In 'Sweet Tooth' Season 2, General Abbot (Neil Sandilands), a key antagonist, forces Dr Aditya Singh (Adeel Akhtar) to find a cure for the H5G9 virus, also called the Sick.

He kidnapped Dr Aditya and his wife, Rani Singh (Aliza Vellani), and threatened their lives unless Dr Aditya found a cure. Subsequently, Dr Aditya conducted fatal experiments on imprisoned hybrids.

Johnny (Marlon Williams), General Abbot's brother, struck up a friendship with Rani due to his kindness. However, Johnny met a tragic end when he was shot in the back and killed by his brother while trying to prevent him from invading Gus' home.

General Abbot attacked the Yellowstone home where Gus was hiding. However, Aimee Eden (Dania Ramirez) intervened and injected him with the H5G9 virus, a deadly pathogen.

Abbot followed Gus and shot at him, but Gus managed to dodge the bullet, escaping unharmed. However, Aimee died after contracting the H5G9 virus in 'Sweet Tooth' Season 2.

In Season 2, the cause of the virus was also revealed. Gillian Washington's (Robyn Malcolm) team retrieved ice samples from Alaska, the same cave where her grandfather had searched for a cure for a degenerative muscle disease but died.

To develop a vaccine for Gillian's illness, they attempted to extract microbes from the ice and inject them into chicken eggs. However, this led to the unexpected discovery of a heartbeat inside one of the eggs, ultimately resulting in the birth of Gus.

When Gillian injected herself with the modified microbes, she became the first known case of the H5G9 virus.

It seems likely that Gus will finally reunite with his mother, Birdie (Amy Seimetz) in 'Sweet Tooth' Season 3, especially since the long-awaited reunion did not occur in Season 2.

After Aimee's death, Tommy Jepperd (Nonso Anozie) and Wendy (Naledi Murray), another hybrid child, are likely to step in to support Gus on his journey in 'Sweet Tooth' Season 3.

With Aimee gone, Gus will lean on Tommy's strength and survival skills, as well as Wendy's unique abilities and companionship. In Alaska, Gus may reunite with Birdie, and together they might embark on a mission to find a cure for the Sick.

With Birdie's scientific background and Gus' unique abilities, their partnership holds the promise of breakthroughs that could change the course of the pandemic.

It's possible that the purple flowers growing near the patients infected by the Sick could hold the key to a cure in Season 3.

Gus, Birdie, and their companions may investigate these flowers, uncovering their unique properties and potential healing properties. If these flowers prove to be the solution, it could bring an end to the devastating spread of the virus.

At the end of 'Sweet Tooth' Season 3, it's possible that humans and hybrids could find happiness together post-pandemic. With the virus cured by the purple flowers, the two groups might reconcile and coexist peacefully.
