Josh O'Connor and Emily Blunt share a chilling moment in new sneak peek at Spielberg's 'Disclosure Day'
Josh O'Connor and Emily Blunt seem to be in a serious conversation in newly released images from Steven Spielberg's upcoming film, 'Disclosure Day'. Written by David Koepp, the sci-fi action thriller is scheduled to be released on June 12, 2026. The highly anticipated movie centers on the revelation of extraterrestrial beings to the world, and with these newly shared images, anticipation for the film is skyrocketing, making our wait for the release harder than expected.
The image shows Blunt and O'Connor's characters secretly meeting inside a red vehicle, locked in an intense conversation, further fueling intrigue around Spielberg's long-awaited sci-fi comeback. The picture, exclusively shared by ScreenRant, expands on the tension teased in the trailer, showing Blunt making an unsettling, alien-like sound during a live weather broadcast as the world looks on in shock. O'Connor's character later argues that humanity deserves to know the truth, that they are not alone, and calls for full disclosure.
So far, the film's marketing has avoided showing any aliens, instead leaning into human drama, mystery, and eerie audio cues to build suspense, signaling Spielberg's return not just to science fiction but to horror as well. This makes a notable shift for Spielberg, whose recent works, like 'The Fabelmans' to 'West Side Story', have largely stayed away from these genres, heightening anticipation for the project.
Alongside Blunt, 'Disclosure Day' also stars Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, and Eve Hewson in currently undisclosed roles, as per People. The mysterious UFO film was first announced in April 2024, as per Variety. At that time, only a few details were revealed beyond the fact that it is based on an original idea by Spielberg and written by Koepp. Even a year and a half later, and after the release of a teaser on Tuesday, December 16, the Universal Pictures project continues to keep its plot tightly under wraps.
What is known is that Blunt stars as an unnamed Kansas City meteorologist, and she has remained just as secretive as Spielberg, whom she affectionately called her "movie dad." While talking about her casting, Blunt shared, "It was very goose-bumpy when he called," adding, "He kind of just said, 'We want you to play this part.' And I cried as I got in the car. I mean, I was just so moved." Blunt said that while working with Spielberg was "awesome," she hasn't seen any of the finished footage yet.
