What is the Denver airport bunker conspiracy? ‘Paradise’ Season 2 finale takes viewers on a wild ride
The 'Paradise' Season 2 finale has left fans reeling with revelations about the setting for the next season. This comes after the Colorado bunker imploded, leaving the survivors in search of a new home. The show's second installment premiered on February 23 and concluded with the finale, 'Exodus,' on March 30 on Hulu. The episode answered one of its biggest mysteries: what and where is Alex (well, sort of). Alex, an AI-controlled supercomputer, was created by Link and the quantum scientist, Henry Miller, with Sinatra's funding, in a bid to solve the climate crisis. But before she died in the finale, Sinatra told Xavier to shut down Alex, which is housed in the second bunker located underneath the Denver airport. With this, the show's writers made full use of the conspiracy theories surrounding the airport to set up Season 3 of 'Paradise.'
The final scene of the Season 2 finale features an aerial view of the 100-mile journey Xavier will have to make from Colorado to the Denver airport. It showcases the airport’s infamous statue called Blucifer, a bright blue mustang with glowing red eyes standing on its back legs, before moving underground to indicate that Alex is housed directly beneath the statue in the bunker. Officially called the 'Blue Mustang,' the 32-foot-high sculpture was created by the artist Luis Jiménez. It ended up being his last work of art as Jiménez died in 2006, while constructing the sculpture after a part of it fell on his leg and damaged his artery. His children had to take over the project and finish the statue, which was installed at Denver International Airport in February 2008. Moreover, the horse's eyes have red LED lights, giving it an ominous look and fueling numerous conspiracy theories about it being a 'devil horse.' Some even believe the statue represents Death, the Fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse, which signals end-of-time calamities in the Book of Revelation from the Bible.
Since it was opened in 1995, the airport has been a hub for endless conspiracy theories. There are rumors that it was built on top of secret bunkers and tunnels for the New World Order, an alleged secret society of globalist totalitarian governments. According to some theories, the airport features a 100-mile-long tunnel that ends at the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD). The writers of 'Paradise' seem to have added this fun tidbit for the conspiracy-loving fans since the distance between these two locations is the same as the distance between the two bunkers on the show.
Sinatra tells Xavier in the Season 2 finale, "100 miles from here, there’s a second bunker deep underneath the Denver airport. It houses a quantum computer that can stop all of this. In fact, it already has stopped all of this. You just need to get there and follow its instructions." Fans are now eager to see how these legends and conspiracies play out in 'Paradise' Season 3.
