'Paradise' EP opens up on future of postapocalyptic drama after explosive Season 2 finale: 'We know what...'
This story contains spoilers.
'Paradise' wrapped up Season 2 in an explosive fashion, with the destruction of the Colorado bunker sending its residents free to explore the outside world for the first time in years. The show's protagonist, Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown), spent the entire Season 1 inside the bunker, but he ventured out in the second season to find his wife, Teri. In the process, he witnessed the world at ground level and met other survivors, including Annie and Gary. After reuniting with Teri, Collins and his wife returned to Colorado to rescue their children from the bunker before it imploded. Shockingly, Samantha 'Sinatra' Redmond decided to sacrifice herself and went down with the bunker, leaving Collins to lead the survivors in the outside world.
However, the threat of AI-powered supercomputer Alex, which can manipulate time, persists. So, Sinatra has asked Collins to shut down Alex, housed beneath the second bunker in Denver, to fix the damage caused by the overlap of two timelines. The post-apocalyptic series was renewed for Season 3 two weeks before its Season 2 finale, which aired on Monday. Dan Fogelman, the creator, had conceptualized the series with a three-season arc in mind. That means Season 3 was always intended to be the final chapter in the post-apocalyptic saga. Moreover, the show's executive producer, John Hoberg, confirmed the same while speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on February 24. "We know what the end is, and it’s an end that would make it very difficult to make a Season 4 come afterward."
Fogelman and his creative team must already be plotting the next season, since they have a clear idea of Season 3's direction. If there are no unexpected delays, the next season of 'Paradise' would follow the same release schedule as the last two seasons. As Seasons 1 and 2 of the show dropped in January 2025 and February 2026, the third installment may also likely arrive in the first two months of 2027. However, we will have to wait for an official confirmation.
Furthermore, the third season of 'Paradise' will see the return of Sterling K. Brown as Collins and Thomas Doherty as Link, as their stories are intricately linked to the mystery of Alex. Other returning stars may include Enuka Okuma as Teri Rogers-Collins, Sarah Shahi as Dr. Gabriela Torabi, Krys Marshall as Agent Robinson, Charlie Evans as Jeremy, Aliyah Mastin as Presley Collins, and Percy Daggs IV as James Collins. Moreover, characters who have died on the show, such as James Marsden's President Cal Bradford, Jon Beavers's Billy Pace, Nicole Brydon Bloom's Jane Driscoll, Shailene Woodley's Annie Clay, and Julianne Nicholson's 'Sinatra' Redmond, may all potentially return in flashback sequences.
