CMA award winner added to a star-studded cast for 'Marshals' and our excitement is through the roof
'Yellowstone' spinoff series, 'Marshals', is all set to showcase some country music touch when it premieres this March. Country music star Riley Green is set to make his maiden acting debut in the much-awaited neo-Western. The news was announced earlier on Monday as the anticipation for the show gathered steam. The CMA and ACM Award winner is cast in a recurring role. Green will play former NAVY SEAL Garrett, who is looking to 'put the demons of his past to rest' when he comes to the ranch to receive some help from friends Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) and Cal (Logan Marshall-Green). Safe to say, the series will explore his past at some stage, lending more depth to his character.
Rounding up the cast alongside Gromes, Marshall-Green, and Green are Belle Skinner (Arielle Kebbel), Andrea Cruz (Ash Santos), and Miles Kittle (Tatanka Means). Brecken Merrill plays his son, Tate, alongside Mo Brings Plenty and Gil Birmingham, who portray his friends from the Broken Rock reservation.
Green was elated to be part of the spinoff. "I’m so excited to be joining the cast of Marshals. Being on set with my buddy Luke Grimes made the experience even more memorable,” he said while speaking with Variety. "This is my first go around in the acting space, and I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to this world."
The official logline reads, "With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Kayce Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence."
The latest update on Green's casting comes after CBS changed the name of the title from 'Y: Marshals' to 'Marshals'. While no official reason was given, multiple news outlets speculated that the change was intended to make the title crisp and smoother. When the show was announced last year, May, it came with a working title, meaning the 'Y' was still part of a working name before the network finalized the change.
'Marshals' is one of the hyped shows of 2026. The buzz comes after 'Yellowstone's success, with expectations that the Grimes-led show will be just as successful. Earlier, ET gave a brief glimpse in an action-packed teaser, showing Dutton's life after the events of the 'Yellowstone' finale. With the show charting his own character arc, there are already rumors of a multi-season run for 'Marshals'. Much, though, depends on how the first season of the spinoff fares.
'Marshals' sees 'Yellowstone' creator Taylor Sheridan, along with David C. Glasser, executive producing for 101 Studios, as well as John Linson, Art Linson, Hudnut, Luke Grimes, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari. Spencer Hudnut will helm the project as executive producer and showrunner. The 13-episode order premieres March 1 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
