The primetime television schedule for Fall 2027-27 has been officially revealed by CBS. The network announced on Wednesday that two of its well-performing shows, 'Matlock' and 'Ghosts,' have been shifted to midseason despite critical acclaim and high ratings. The network executives explained that this shift is only a reflection of their strategy to support the launch of their new shows, 'NCIS: New York,' 'Cupertino,' and 'Eternally Yours.' As reported by Variety, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said that the decision to move bona fide hits like ‘Matlock’ and ‘Ghosts’ to midseason reflects the strength of their schedule.

CBS is showing confidence in its flagship police procedural drama

The surprising addition to the list was 'NCIS: New York,' which will be sandwiched between 'NCIS' and 'NCIS: Origins' on Tuesday. The serialized drama series, which kicked off in 2003, is currently in its twenty-third season and has already been renewed for another season. Despite its original cast being completely replaced, the show has maintained its primetime slot with impressive ratings. The spinoff series 'NCIS: Origins,' a prequel to NCIS that explores the tragic past of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, has been well-received by critics and viewers despite its darker tone.

The show will return for a third season at 10.00 p.m. after the newly announced 'NCIS: New York.' The addition of a new spinoff series shows the network's confidence in this franchise, as the previous addition, 'NCIS: Tony & Ziva,' was canceled after the first season due to low viewership. The new show marks the return of LL Cool J as Sam Hanna, after playing the role for 14 seasons on 'NCIS: Los Angeles.' He will be joined by Scott Caan in a new role. Caan is known for playing Danny Williams in 'Hawaii Five-0' for ten seasons. Interestingly, he has appeared as Danny Williams in one of 'NCIS: Los Angeles' crossover episodes.

Other new additions in the schedule

Eternally Yours

The new supernatural comedy series, created by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, has replaced 'Ghosts' in its Thursday 8.30 p.m. slot. The series centers on a vampire couple, Charles and Liz, played by Ed Weeks and Allegra Edwards, respectively. Charles and Liz used to be passionate lovers, but after spending 500 years together, their marriage has become a life sentence. When their daughter's human boyfriend unexpectedly enters the scene, they must confront their marital problems. The series also stars Jaren Lewison as Max, Parker Young as Jesse, Rose Abdoo as Phyllis, Helen J. Shen as Emma, Tristan Michael Brown as Mort, and Shylo Molina as Henry.

Cupertino

'Cupertino' is a legal drama scheduled to air on Thursdays at 10.00 p.m., following 'Elsbeth.'According to TV Insider, the show is described as "a David vs. Goliath legal show set in Silicon Valley." Robert King and Michelle King, known for the critically acclaimed show 'Evil,' are the co-creators of 'Cupertino.' Mike Colter is leading the show alongside Rachel Keller, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Busy Philipps, and Ella Stiller in prominent roles.
