CBS is showing confidence in its flagship police procedural drama
The surprising addition to the list was 'NCIS: New York,' which will be sandwiched between 'NCIS' and 'NCIS: Origins' on Tuesday. The serialized drama series, which kicked off in 2003, is currently in its twenty-third season and has already been renewed for another season. Despite its original cast being completely replaced, the show has maintained its primetime slot with impressive ratings. The spinoff series 'NCIS: Origins,' a prequel to NCIS that explores the tragic past of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, has been well-received by critics and viewers despite its darker tone.
The show will return for a third season at 10.00 p.m. after the newly announced 'NCIS: New York.' The addition of a new spinoff series shows the network's confidence in this franchise, as the previous addition, 'NCIS: Tony & Ziva,' was canceled after the first season due to low viewership. The new show marks the return of LL Cool J as Sam Hanna, after playing the role for 14 seasons on 'NCIS: Los Angeles.' He will be joined by Scott Caan in a new role. Caan is known for playing Danny Williams in 'Hawaii Five-0' for ten seasons. Interestingly, he has appeared as Danny Williams in one of 'NCIS: Los Angeles' crossover episodes.
