‘Survivor’ 50's Ozzy Lusth needed surgery after mid-challenge injury but a new strategy softened the blow
‘Survivor’ star Ozzy Lusth, who is known for dominating challenges, recently opened up about a knee injury that required him to undergo surgery. In a conversation with The U.S. Sun, he revealed that he suffered a mid-competition injury during a challenge. He mentioned that this would have impacted his "entire game" earlier; however, he admitted that this time "everything was different." The ordeal was cut from the show, and Lusth elaborated, saying, "I f**ked my knee up badly, but it’s not like a huge thing on the show. I don’t even think they’ll show it.” He added that if such an incident had happened in the past, it would have "f**ked everything up." However, this time, it did not impact his game. "I didn’t play that type of physical game this time around. I led with more strategy," he noted.
After getting back from filming, the ‘Survivor’ star began consulting several doctors. He revealed to the publication that he finally had knee surgery in late 2025 and is now recovering well and "doing a lot better." Throughout his participation in various seasons of the show, fans have witnessed him going to great lengths to win immunity challenges. There have been numerous occasions on which he has also taken his tribe to the next phase of the competition singlehandedly. But things have changed for him this season.
He mentioned that he has shifted away from his earlier strategy of dominating challenges, and this ultimately helped to soften the impact of his injury. "At a certain point, you gotta play a different game. When you realize that’s not winning for you. And I think the people winning, they can pull out a physical win when they really need it - and rely on their physicality to get them far," he explained. Lusth also talked about Chris Underwood, the winner of 'Edge of Extinction,' and noted how his comeback was a "special case." He admitted that very few people could do that. "I don't think I'm that good at the game in that way. I play a good enough game to get myself to the next phase. I think more than the social part, I appreciate being out there. I love playing," he said.
Lusth has participated in numerous competition shows, including ‘Survivor: Cook Islands’, ‘Survivor: Micronesia’, ‘Survivor: South Pacific’, ‘Survivor: Game Changers’, ‘American Ninja Warrior’ Season 2, ‘Foursome’, and ‘Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans.’ As of now, he is still in the running to be the Sole Survivor of Season 50.
