'Watchmen' Episode 9 'See How They Fly' reveals why eggs are so important to the show
Since the very first episode, we've seen eggs featured in a lot of scenes on HBO's 'Watchmen'. Though there didn't appear to be a clear pattern to the appearances, the fact that they kept happening over and over again did make us wonder if there was some hidden meaning there that we were all missing out on.
Well, guess what? It turns out the eggs were the most important thing on the show, not just as symbols of rebirth or legacy but as Doctor Manhattan's final plan for Angela Abar / Sister Night (Regina King). What seemed like just a random thing thrown into the mix to distract fans was actually the biggest plot device in the whole series.
In Episode 8 'A God Walks Into Abar', Doctor Manhattan (Yahya Abdul Mateen II) revealed that he could theoretically transfer his powers to someone else using organic material, like an egg for example. Though that did seem like a suspiciously specific example, we still weren't entirely sure where the show was going.
Honestly, there have been so many instances where eggs kept popping up on the screen that we actually started to question whether they were actually important or if Damon Lindelof just likes taking shots of eggs. But all those doubts have now been laid to rest after Episode 9 'See How They Fly'.
Now we know that all those egg scenes were building up to the show's final moments when Angela realizes that Doctor Manhattan left her an egg which may or may not have been modified to give her his powers. We never did see whether it worked or not so there's really no way to know for sure if Angela is the new Doctor Manhattan but at least now we know why we've been seeing so many eggs on the show.
'Watchmen' Episode 9 'See How They Fly' aired on HBO on December 15.
