'Watchmen' episode 6 promo shows Angela Abar on Nostalgia, a drug that may hold answers to many questions
Spoilers ahead for 'Watchmen' episode 5 titled 'Little Fear of Lightning'
Angela Abar aka Sister Night (Regina King) may not have been the star of 'Watchmen' episode 5, but the drug that she possesses, which has now been revealed as Nostalgia holds a lot of answers, especially about the identity of Will Reeves (Louis Gossett Jr.) and his journey. It may even give us hints about what his motivations are, and the plan that he has concocted with Lady Trieu (Hong Chau).
The promo sees Sister Night undergo a transformation, but all of it is unfolding in her head. She is, in a way, reliving Will Reeves' past and that is what Nostalgia does to a person under its influence. The drug is basically memories that were locked into a person's DNA, which upon being ingested will let you relive the memories of the DNA's owner. The drug itself was outlawed a few years ago, but Sister Night came across it after her grandfather made contact with her.
Will doesn't want to give his granddaughter access to information directly and he was clear that none of what Angela learns because of the drug will affect His and Lady Trieu's future plans. So what is it that he wants Sister Night to know? His story? This deep dive into the abyss that is Will's past may also give us answers about favorite fan speculations. For one, is Will really the Hooded Justice?
According to Nostalgia's official advert brochure that was released by Trieu Industries in 2007, the drug is a customized psychoactive compound and it is made from synthetic mnemonic material that is replicated from the patients. Each tablet can hold up to five memories and was introduced as a drug that could help patients of dementia, anxiety and psychic trauma by replicated a memory that would help soothe their minds. In the form of a pill, this will help one to experience the chosen memory in the most lucid way possible.
Angela had handed over the pills to Looking Glass aka Wade Tillman (Tim Blake Nelson) to investigate what the pills were. His contact was his ex-wife, Cynthia (Eileen Grubba), who worked for a center that cloned pets at the request of their human companions. Once Looking Glass learned what the pill was, he hands the bottle of pills to Sister Night and tells her the truth. After his visit with a group of Seventh Kavalry members, one of whom requested that he set Sister Night up for Chief Judd Crawford's death in return for the truth about the giant squid attack, Looking Glass ends up betraying Sister Night.
Despite knowing that his table is bugged by FBI agent Laurie Blake (Jean Smart), he convinces Sister Night to confide in him. She confesses about Will Reeves -- the fact that she got the pills from him, that he is her grandfather and that he was at Crawford's murder site. In seconds, Laurie comes out with her gun pointed at Sister Night who is shocked at being betrayed by Looking Glass.
In the resulting commotion, Sister Night ends up ingesting all of the pills in the bottle to make sure that it doesn't fall into the hands of the FBI agent and as a result, she is going to live through her grand father's memories. The promo adds further to this plotline by revealing how the memories unfold in a manner that put Angela in Will's place. From the time when Will was a young boy, to when he became a cop and a husband; Angela has got the first-row seat to watch something that she wasn't ready for.
What memories has Will chosen and how it will influence the direction of the show is something that we cannot wait to watch in the upcoming episode. 'Watchmen' episode 6 titled 'This Extraordinary Being' will air on Sunday at 9 pm ET on HBO.
