Was Netflix's 'Squid Game: The Challenge' rigged? Fans accuse production of planting Mai Whelan's win amid lawsuit threats
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: Mai's Whelan's win in the 'Squid Game: The Challenge' finale has left many viewers dissatisfied. Some believe the last two games were too intense and seemed controlled by predictions.
A section of viewers think the choices of green, red, and gray could have been manipulated remotely. They also speculated that the chest at the end might have been unlocked remotely, making any key open it.
Suspicion arose that the makers were already leaning toward making Mai the winner and had planned everything accordingly, making it seem like the game was rigged in her favor.
Some upset fans have even threatened to sue the makers.
"I mean it would be illegal and open up massive lawsuits if this would be true," wrote a user on Reddit.
"Yeah, making whoever hit the button first find red or green would have ended it right there, so I think it was rigged to force it to a second person having to choose," wrote another. "That's illegal. I read an article about game shows and laws and basically it's all very prosecutable and the showrunners would get f*****," someone else added.
"You are definitely right, it's easy to rig. Where's the transparency? They could have made them choose a cube/prism/sphere with a piece of cloth inside," fumed another.
"Both final games were/ could have been easily controlled by production. The green/red/gray choices could have been remotely triggered. The chest at the end could have been remotely unlocked so that any key would open it," a viewer noted.
Ex-player Ankur Khajuria reveals sour losers say ‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ is rigged
Khajuria, an ex-contestant, spoke up against the claims that the game was rigged. According to him, some of the players who lost were making up stories.
He told Hindustan Times, "Many complained for various reasons, especially those eliminated early in the Red Light Green Light challenge. They felt bitter about not making it, but we knew it would be tough. In Squid Game, with a big cash prize, nothing is handed over easily. It's survival of the fittest. No one forced you to stay; you could have quit."
What did ‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ contestants eat?
The contestants were served simple meals during the show, like veggies with noodles for one meal and basic porridge with rice and water in the morning.
They didn't get any snacks, juices, or drinks other than water throughout the entire competition. It was all about the basics when it came to food.
How many ‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ contestants are injured?
Earlier this year, Netflix said that three people received medical help during the show, but they insisted none of the injuries were really bad.
Reportedly, there were elaborate precautions in place to ensure the contestants' health and safety. Two players, who we don't know the names of, were hurt from the extreme cold and had some problems with their nerves.
