LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After an intense multi-studio bidding war, Warner Bros has finally acquired the rights to the action-thriller 'Maude v Maude', starring Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry. The project's details are still being revealed, but it is said to be in the 'Bond vs Bourne' genre.

Scott Mosier is writing the script for the global action thriller, which will be directed by Roseanne Liang and produced by the actresses and Halle Berry's producing partner Holly Jeter through their HalleHolly banner, as well as Jeff Kirschenbaum and Joe Roth through RK Films.

Eight-figure bidding war

Warner Bros acquired the rights to 'Maude v Maude' in an extreme multi-studio bidding war with an impressive eight-figure bid, according to Deadline. The staggering amount dwarfs most of the studio's recent projects. Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy have been attempting to push for more film star packages in their future slate since taking over as co-studio heads.

DeLuca and Abdy are known to be strong individuals who are willing to go the extra mile for a project that they believe will benefit the studios and promote talent.

First collaboration between Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry

'Maude v Maude' will be the first collaboration between Angelina Jolie, who has starred in action films such as 'Salt', 'Mr & Mrs Smith', 'Lara Croft: Tom Raider', and so on, and Halle Berry, who has appeared in popular action flicks like 'John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum', 'X-Men', and 'Die Another Day'. It will be fascinating to see how the two veterans of the genre interact on-screen.

The upcoming global action-thriller will also be a significant step forward for director Roseanne Liang, who rose to prominence with the documentary 'Banana in a Nutshell', which she adapted into a feature film titled 'My Wedding and Other Secrets' in 2011. Liang most recently co-created, directed, and co-wrote the acclaimed series 'Creamerie' in 2021. 'Shadow in the Clouds', starring Chloe Grace Moretz, was her first foray into Hollywood in 2021.
