Hardly 24 hours after Vikings' season 5 explosive finale aired, the History Channel released a teaser for the final installation of its flagship show with the message "coming soon." How soon is "coming soon" exactly? Given the latest clues, it looks like the premiere of season 6 will not witness the traditional one-year hiatus.
On February 5, Katheryn Winnick, who plays the leading role of shieldmaiden Lagertha, took to Instagram Stories and shared a picture of her looking over her laptop. The laptop display revealed the opening sequence of the show with the words "Directed by Katheryn Winnick" inscribed at the bottom of the screen. The Canadian actress captioned the photo "Coming soon…" and featured two hashtags; "#Director," and "#Vikings." It was the actress' debut directorial role.

Fans quickly speculated, if Winnick was watching the show she directed, and, on her laptop, then chances are 'Vikings' season 6 isn't a long long wait away. The first ten episodes of season 6 could start as early as September or October this year and the second half could premiere early next year.
Fans opine the early return of the series could be a refreshing change since the past two seasons premiered towards the end of November while season one, two and three all arrived around February and March. Winnick, moreover, took to Twitter for her #WinnickWednesday Q&A session with her fans and answered curious questions. Mainly about her fate in the show.

Michael Hirst, the creator of the 'Vikings,' confirmed the final filming concluded in November last year and that was the wrap. "We stopped shooting the final episode in November last year and I felt that I’d said all I needed to say about Ragnar and his sons," he told Variety. Teasing the premiere he did add the first part of season 6 will debut "later this year." He added: "I’m desperate for people to see it because it is the most ambitious and intensely emotional episodes of 'Vikings' ever."
The 18-second trailer which dropped January 31 revealed Lagertha will resume her duty as a shieldmaiden to protect Bjorn Ironside's Kattegat. Ivar the Boneless seems to have escaped to Rus, but he isn't done yet. As the Seer prophesized, the war didn't end with the season 5 finale. Ivar and the Rus Vikings will come to Scandinavian shores to launch a deadly attack.
Ivar can be heard telling someone "We should unleash our forces against our brothers," but the bigger question is who is he talking to? However, since the assurance has come season 6 will premiere "soon," we know we don't have to wait too long for our answers. 'Vikings' come already! Valhalla awaits after season 6 and we're ready to weep.
