Apple TV+ has given a straight-to-series order to a crime drama series from Robert Downey Jr’s, Team Downey, with Adam Perlman of 'Billions' fame serving as writer

After their first TV show 'Perry Mason' got renewed for a second season at HBO, Robert Downey Jr and Susan Downey’s 'Team Downey' are expanding their small screen production with a new project that has just been given a straight to series order by Apple Studio. The show will be streaming on Apple TV +.

Downey Jr is best known for his performance in the title role of the 'Iron Man' franchise. His wife Susan is a talented film producer who has produced films like, 'The Brave One', 'Gothika', 'House of Wax' and 'Orphan'. Adam Perlman is the writer of the yet-untitled series, who has been working on 'Billions' for the past four years, most recently rising to executive producer on the latest season of the show. He has also written episodes of famous TV shows like, 'The Newsroom' and 'The Good Wife'.

Release Date

The makers have not announced the release date yet. We will update this article once we have more information. 

Plot

According to Variety, the untitled show is based on a Toronto Life article titled 'The Sting' by Michael Lista and centers on a frustrated Canadian detective who takes on a decades-old case in hopes of winning a confession and becoming a hero. The case quickly spirals out of control when the undercover cop attempts an elaborate sting, adding playacting cops, taxpayer resources, and an unexpected friendship with the peculiar target.

Cast

Although no cast has currently been set, Downey Jr is also eyeing a supporting role in the project, as per Deadline.

Creators

Adam Perlman, a veteran of Showtime's 'Billions', is writing and executive producing. The Downeys and Amanda Burrell are attached to executive produce the series via Team Downey and Lista attached to co-executive production. Currently, the company is in pre-production on the psychological thriller 'A Head Full of Ghosts', starring Margaret Qualley with Scott Cooper directing it. 

The banner is also currently developing a series adaptation of the Vertigo comic 'Sweet Tooth', which recently picked up a full eight-episode series order from Netflix and signed Will Forte and James Brolin to star.
