The Astroworld tragedy has ensured that big music festivals are now wary of artist Travis Scott. The popular Coachella festival has now dropped the rapper for its lineup. As one of the biggest music festivals of the year, Coachella's decision will affect Scott's gig calender quite badly.

His popularity is at an all-time low after 10 people were killed in the wake of the deadly stampede at his Astroworld concert last month. The rapper was headlining Coachella 2022 before he was taken out of the list of performers at the event. A Change.org petition had been posted to get the authorities to drop Travis Scott from the lineup of performances for the upcoming Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2022. The annual music and arts festival is held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert.

The petition titled 'Remove Travis Scott as a Goldenvoice performer,' requested the authorities to ban Travis Scott as a performer at their festivals. The starter of this petition said, "With the recent tragic and unnecessary death at Travis Scott’s Astroworld concert, due to Scott’s own gross negligence and sheer lack of compassion for human life, we ask AEG, Paul Tollet, and Goldenvoice to remove him as performer at all of their festivals." The Coachella festival was co-founded by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen in 1999, and is organized by Goldenvoice, a subsidiary of AEG Presents

More than 60,000 people sign petition

In an attempt to get their voices heard, the creator of this petition also said, "Thank you everyone for signing this petition. After watching Travis Scott’s apology video its very clear that he’s trying to avoid blame in the unnecessary deaths of his fans. At no point in his video “apology” did we think be was genuinely sorry for the loss of lives at his concert. Please start sharing this petition so that we can make our voices heard." This petition was created on the 7th November, and has garnered more than 60,000 signatures already.

Another person who had signed the petition said, "He should be locked up. It’s not the first time or second time, but third time he’s done this." Speaking on how Travis did not pause when he should have, another person who signed said, "How did he not know it was declared a mass casualty that night as he went to party and Dave and busters with drake. And he didn’t care about the ambulance in the crowd to stop the show. I don’t think he has any regard for human life. Thousands of people have severe ptsd, lives lost, people horrible injured. Insincere apology. ONE MONTH of BetterHelp offer? F*ck this guy."

Throwing shade at his 'baby mommy', another person commented, "Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner straight liars and they don't care about us because we don't have the money they have or the celebrity status. Don't buy any Kylie products." Talking more on why they signed the petition to cancel Travis from headlining at Coachella, this user said, "There was an extreme amount of NEGLIGENCE on Travis and the staff's behalf. Most importantly, discovering that Travis has a record of inciting hostile behavior and not caring is an indication that he definitely needs to be CANCELED before more lives are lost and ruined."

Coachella without Travis?

In January 2020, Travis was first announced as a headliner for Coachella. Owing to the Covid-induced lockdowns, this music festival was postponed multiple times. With this assumed withdrawal of Travis Scott as a headliner, Swedish House Mafia is set to perform in 2022. The famous streaming platform, Hulu has also reportedly cancelled Travis Scott's 50-minute special titled "Astroworld: Concert From Hell" after they faced backlash due to the tragedy at the concert.

In addition to this, Travis is also seen facing lawsuits worth millions of dollars. Surprisingly, this is not just from those injured or killed but also security guards at the events as they were harmed because they weren't trained to tackle such large and rowdy crowds. In an interview, he broke his silence and said, "I have a responsibility to figure out what happened here. I have a responsibility to find a solution. Hopefully, this takes a first step into us artists having more insight into what’s going on." His agent reportedly offered to give up performance fees just to save Travis' headlining slot.
