Everyone likes an underdog story. But ‘Toon’ is a little different. It’s not so much about the silent nobody emerging victorious, but more about what our titular hero does with it. With 16 episodes spanning over two seasons, ‘Toon’ is the show you might want to watch when you want to see someone else go through the grinds of everyday existential dread.

Plot:

‘Toon’, as per NRC.nl, is a cross between sitcom and media satire.

The central character, Toon, suddenly finds himself in the midst of popularity after he gains viral fame on the internet. After that, the reclusive, socially awkward, “uber loser” jingle composer finds himself navigating the nightmarish world of show business.

Cast:

The show’s co-creator Joep Vermolen plays the eponymous hero. He is an actor and writer, and is known for ‘Force’ and ‘Ongeneeslijk Verliefd.' The show also features Dutch actor Loulou Hameleers, known for ‘Random Shit’ and ‘Kiezen voor liefde.'

Trailer:

Toon is happy, living a normal life, playing video games and enjoying his peaceful existence as a jingle maker. One day, at a party, everything changes. He performs a song and receives applause. The next morning, however, he realizes that he’s turned into a viral sensation. From there, his life goes topsy-turvy. He’s on the news and talk shows. He makes weird music videos and his sister becomes his agent. But does Toon really want the fame?
