THE TWO KINGS: Tom Cruise to postpone filming of new 'Mission Impossible' movie to attend King Charles' coronation, reveals source
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: Tom Cruise has reportedly made the decision to halt production of the eighth installment of his spy movie series 'Mission: Impossible' in order to attend King Charles' coronation on May 6, 2023. The 60-year-old actor is reported to be the one who would never "miss out on" the royal occasion.
A source revealed, "Tom has been invited to King Charles' coronation and there is no way he would have ever turned it down," as reported by The Sun. The source added, "It is a hugely prestigious event and Tom is a real royalist — plus he is now close with Prince William and Kate. Tom has told film bosses to shut down the production on 'Mission: Impossible' over the Coronation weekend to make sure he can attend." In recent years, the actor has gotten closer to the royal family. Cruise gave Prince William and Kate Middleton tickets to an early screening of 'Top Gun: Maverick' on May 19, 2022. The trio attended the star-studded premiere in London two months after receiving a world-premiere peek of the movie in March.

'It is a huge thing for Tom to be invited and he is honored'
The source stated, "It shocked some people on the film, as Tom is so dedicated to his craft and would never normally deviate from his intense production schedules. But something as important — and grand — as King Charles's coronation is something he would not want to miss out on. It is a huge thing for Tom to be invited and he is honored."
The coronation of King Charles will take place at Westminster Abbey in London on Saturday, May 6, 2023. The King and Camilla, the Queen Consort, will both be crowned at the ceremony. The coronation is expected to be less elaborate and shorter than Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953.
Tom Cruise extends a friendly hand to the royal family
Back in 2022, Cruise joined Prince William and Kate Middleton at a screening of 'Top Gun: Maverick'. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were welcomed by Cruise, who also introduced them to his co-stars Miles Teller, Jon Hamm, and Jennifer Connelly. Prior to this, Cruise took part in the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Windsor, describing his participation as an "honor."
On the day of the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee, Cruise was requested to introduce a key segment during the horse-themed event titled 'A Gallop Through History'. This demonstrates the close relationship Cruise has had with the royal family. Following the passing of the Queen, Cruise attended her funeral alongside celebrities like Sir Elton John, Tom Hanks, and Nicole Kidman. Cruise even enjoyed a special moment with Princess Diana at the premiere of the 1992 movie 'Far and Away'.
