LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Top Gun: Maverick' was among the biggest hit movies of 2022. While fans could not help raving about the Tom Cruise-starrer, they have started debating if 'Top Gun 3' was a possibility. However, eager fans seem to have already manifested a 'Top Gun'-like situation in real life after the incident involving a "balloon."

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the movie stars Tom Cruise as Pete Maverick, a naval aviator who after 30 years of service comes back to train a group of elite graduates to prepare for a high-profile mission while Maverick battles his own demons. While the first 'Top Gun' was a commercial hit, the sequel, 'Top Gun: Maverick', broke records, making it one of the highest-grossing movies of the year.

Just recently, the US army shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon that was floating near Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. Following the incident, fans quickly decided to link it to the movie franchise.

'Smoke in the air'

Soon after, a person wrote, "This is what woke me up today !! World War 3 or Top Gun 3 making going on.. i don't know... #fighterjet," while another wrote, "At least we have a plot for Top Gun 3."

"When's the movie adaptation?" asked a fan. Another chipped in, "Wait a minute. This whole balloon thing was just the filming for #TOPGUN 3 wasn't it?" Another person chimed in, "#Topgun3 plot going to be WILD! Smoke in the air. Don't think, just... 'POP' ... oh, splash 1, Mav."

'Top Gun: Maverick' almost caused an international incident

'Top Gun: Maverick' was a hit but it had almost caused an international incident. According to Screenrant, when the Darkstar sequence in the beginning was being shot, satellites from other countries focussed on the China Lake Naval Air Station and took photos of the film's hypersonic scramjet. Not just that, initially, the movie's trailer in 2019 had featured a character with a Taiwanese flag on their iconic bomber jacket. During the preview, the patches on Cruise’s jacket, which originally bore flags that represented Taiwan and Japan, appeared to have been removed and replaced with two ambiguous symbols in the same color theme.
