'Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan' Season 3: Release date, plot, cast and everything you need to know about the hit political thriller starring John Krasinski
Such was the success of 'Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan' that Amazon Prime Video renewed the series for two more seasons. The second installment hit the world a day earlier (the original date was November 1) and opened to rave reviews from critics and fans. Season 2 had already garnered enough attention for its mind-numbing action and is rated a healthy 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critic consensus read: "Jack Ryan's second season is both bolder and more refined, doubling down on its epic espionage set-pieces while making its titular character a little more relatable."
Season 2 saw John Krasinski's Ryan investigate a mystery in Venezuela that results in a major political crisis. The new season saw impressive cast additions in Tom Wlaschiha, Noomi Rapace, Michael Kelly. Jordi Mulla and Cristina Umana. The narrative was relatively tighter and was high on the suspense factor. It appears the series has made the corrections from season 1 and this means, season 3 comes in with a pretty high bar to vault.
The new season dropped 15 months after the release of the first, meaning season 3 might take a while to land. However, there are bits and pieces of information out there and here's what we know about it so far:
Release date
Like we said earlier, the 15-month gap between season 1 and 2 suggest the streamer is in no hurry to dish out the season immediately. Expect season 3 to come in sometime in late 2020 or the spring of 2021.
Plot
Season 2 picked up from the events of season 1. While there was no Mousa Bin Suleiman's next of kin plotting revenge on the US, there was trouble brewing in Venezuela and the heroes were in South America making sure things don't go south. It ended with Ryan exposing the corruption within the US Senate and left the future wide open. Also to be taken into account is the switch in creative teams who may look to bring something new to the table.
Cast
John Krasinski will be back as Jack Ryan. The '13 Hours' star has carved a name for himself by playing the titular character twice and he is sure to reprise the role in the upcoming season. That's pretty much the only thing we can be sure of. Wendell Pierce might not appear in season 3 considering how his character explains to Ryan that his time in the field is done. Does this mean Pierce may have hinted that he's exiting the show? Given Abbie Cornish's Cathy Mueller's absence in season 2, the show suggests it's open to replacing cast members as per the demands of the script that also leaves Michael Kelly and Noomi Rapace's appearances in doubt as well.
Writer/Director
Paul Scheuring will be replacing Carlton Cuse, who oversaw seasons 1 and 2. Scheuring created 'Prison Break' for FOX and now takes over the reins of the political drama alongside Krasinski, who also serves as the executive producer.
Trailer
Nope. Nada. Unless Krasinski drops a bomb like how he did with the season 2 release on Halloween, any glimpse of season 3 could only hit us by the end of 2020.
News
The Wrap reported that former showrunner/series creator Carlton Cuse left Jack Ryan after two seasons so that he could make Netflix's 'Locke and Key'.
