‘Unexpected' Spoilers: Lilliana Cantu labeled 'sick' for being glad Ethan's parents are taking care of Myrka
Myrka Cantu, who is staying with boyfriend Ethan Ybarra, had an extravagant baby shower thrown by Ethan’s parents in the January 10 episode of ‘Unexpected’ and after the long wait, it was finally revealed to the expecting teen parents that they were going to have a baby girl. Most importantly, Myrka’s mother Lilliana, who kicked her out of the house after she got pregnant, came to the party to show her support.
Lilliana asked her 16-year-old daughter to leave the house after it was revealed that she was pregnant and abortion was not an option. She was then taken in by 17-year-old Ethan's parents. On the January 17 episode, we will see Myrka and Ethan’s mothers bond over cooking. They had also invited Lilliana to come and have a look at the baby’s nursery that Ethan’s parents built.
While Ethan’s parents happily go leaps and bounds to support the kids during the pregnancy, Lilliana had made it very clear that she wouldn’t be spending a single penny for the baby who is “coming to ruin Myrka’s life". But while Ethan’s parents take care of them financially and emotionally, Lilliana has no problem showing her excitement for the baby, something very unnatural to her former demeanor.
During the baby shower, Lilliana not only graced the occasion with her presence but also showered her daughter with hugs and kisses. We saw Myrka feeling very confused and awkward around her mother who had seemed to break off any connection with her daughter when she asked her to leave home. Myrka definitely expected more sensitivity from her mother, given the fact that she raised her brother when Lilliana was busy with her job.
During the confession, Myrka said, “What the fuck,” feeling confused if her mother was really suddenly happy or was just faking her excitement. She also confessed that she was scared her mother could go back to being insensitive and harsh any time and she doesn’t trust her. What we analyze is that Lilliana has no problem with her daughter getting pregnant at 16 and raising a child on her own with the support of her boyfriend and his family as long as she doesn’t have to take any responsibility.
She had earlier said she wanted to teach her daughter a lesson for not giving importance to her future and her career. Viewers took to Facebook to comment on the situation and wrote, “Maybe if her mom had showed her love and not treated her like a free babysitter, maid and cook she wouldn't have ended up in this situation she was looking for the love her mom didn't provide. Funny shes so strict with her daughter about its not her baby she's not helping but had her daughter raising and caring for her younger brother that wasn't her responsibility.” Another said, “Her mom makes me sick. I cannot believe her behavior and the things she has said. A baby is a blessing. No matter the circumstances, a baby is a gift. I don't mean when a baby is conceived in a bad manner. I just know I could never kick my daughter out as a pregnant teen. That mom is self absorbed.”
However, given the kind-hearted people that Ethan’s parents her, they were more than happy to host Lilliana at their home. Ethan’s mother said a girl needs her mom more than anything when she is pregnant and she can only hope for Lilliana to accept the situation they are in and be a little more sensitive. Another viewer felt Myrka is better off without the negativity and wrote, “I think Myrka is where she should be and maybe mom knew that? They have the ability and means to take help take care of Myrka and her baby. Myrka is happy and glowing, she no longer has the responsibility of her younger brother. How her mom has gone about it is disheartening but I just hope Myrka can get past this and doesnt affect her negatively.”
We only hope the mother-daughter relationship gets better with time.
