When the doctor asked how this happened, Brian Chaney revealed it happened to him at his construction site. His nail gun was somehow triggered. He shared he pitches roofs for a living and the nail gun was resting next to him and was turned up toward the sky. He missed his footing and was sliding down the sloped roof when he got in contact with the tool. It is always good practice and advisable to lock the trigger of the nail gun when not in use. According to the doctor, he had only seen a handful of these injuries before, In this case, a five-second mishap might just evolve into a five-hour operation.

Previously many attempted to take the nail out but were unsuccessful. When Brian entered the surgery room, the medics put Brian had to give him anesthesia, since it could be a painful procedure. The nail was buried deep in his arm. When Dr Crawford looked at Brian's X-ray he suspected the nail could be trapped in a bone, tendon, or artery. However, what was also troubling that while trying to remove the nail, if they triggered a nerve, Brian could end up losing total arm function. Dr Crawford grabbed a Hemostat and wiggled it a little with the nail while Brian was unconscious. After a lot of wiggling and moving it around, the doctor was able to get it out. And the good news is that no blood was spilled as a result of it. A thankful Brian vowed to be careful with his tools and lock them up the right way.
