'Titans' Season 2 Episode 9 finally gives Beast Boy his time in the spotlight after keeping him in the background all season

Episode 9 gave us a lot of good scenes with Gar, especially the montage of his days after Dick goes off on a quest for forgiveness leaving Titans Tower and the unconscious Conner in Gar's hands.

Ryan Potter's Garfield "Gar" Logan / Beast Boy is easily one of the most endearing characters in 'Titans' and it has been frustrating seeing him relegated to the sidelines for most of the season. While he's had his moments, Gar hasn't really been given enough time in the spotlight in Season 2 but Episode 9 fixes this by giving us a four-day tour of the life of Garfield Logan.

After Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) revealed that Jericho (Chella Man) died while saving Dick from Jericho's father Deathstroke / Slade Wilson (Esai Morales), the Titans split up and went their separate ways. Even when everyone else abandoned Dick, Gar and Krypto the Superdog were the only ones who stayed behind. Well, them and Conner Kent (Joshua Orpin), who was basically in a coma so he doesn't really count.

It's actually quite touching when you think about it, especially since at the start of the season, Dick had almost beaten Gar to death. Granted he was under the influence of the demonic warlord Trigon (Seamus Dever) but Gar wasn't entirely ready to forgive him then. After everything that he's been through (which really has been a lot) Gar is still the most positive person on the show.

Episode 9 gave us a lot of good scenes with Gar, especially the montage of his days after Dick goes off on a quest for forgiveness leaving Titans Tower and the unconscious Conner in Gar's hands. Seeing him slowly lose his mind 'Shining' style was actually quite funny and his interactions with Conner were just adorable.

Conner and Gar clearly connect on a lot of things, like the fact that they were both "made" by sociopathic mad scientists and we'd love to see this friendship grow further. Later in the episode, when Gar messes up big time and accidentally unleashes Conner's wrath on the San Francisco Police Department, Potter puts on a good performance as the panic-stricken teen who just failed in the one job he had.

'Titans' has a pretty large cast this season and that has led to a lot of the best characters on the show not getting enough screen time. As much as we love seeing Dick's journey to becoming Nightwing, we have missed Gar and his part in the episode was definitely a highlight.

'Titans' Season 2 Episode 10 'Fallen' will arrive on DC Universe on November 8.
