'Thought this was Season 2': Fans boycott 'Squid Games: The Challenge' after Netflix's misleading advertising
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: Since 'Squid Game: The Challenge' is entirely based on the Korean show 'Squid Game', many got confused thinking that Netflix is releasing Season 2 of the OG series. The viewers were, therefore, left disappointed as the OTT platform released a new reality show instead of a new season.
As Netflix announced the release of 'Squid Game' Season 2, people thought it actually meant the second season of the OG series. The set, costumes, and even the challenges were the same as those of the original show, confusing fans. Now that the reality show has been released, fans are left disappointed.
The viewers are now boycotting 'Squid Game: The Challenge' as they were unhappy after knowing that the British reality show is not the continuation of the Korean series.
A user took to a Reddit thread with the title "Why do so many people think The Challenge is Season 2?" and wrote, "I saw the promo on Netflix but didn't watch the trailer and I thought it was for season 2."
The fan further slammed Netflix's deceitful advertising and said, "I was so disappointed when I went to watch it today and I realised it was just a reality show. I feel like Netflix advertised it as season 2 to get people interested. Is it worth watching?"
Another claimed, "Then you have people who thought this was season 2 and won't come back to watch the actual season 2. It's a cash grab to try and bank off the popularity of the show."
Another called out Netflix and wrote, "I only saw the Netflix trailer tonight (it's televised next Wednesday in the UK). There were no details other than images of a new cast and the famous doll, so I too presumed season 2 had crept up on us secretly. I was looking forward to Wednesday."
To which, one viewer agreed and wrote, "Yeah Im not sure? Maybe just blind hype? My mom was mistaken as well until I told her like a few weeks ago."
