'This Is Us' Season 4 Episode 14 Preview: What secrets does the time capsule hold for the Sad Three?
The Pearson siblings or "The Sad Three" — Kate (Chrissy Metz), Randall (Sterling K Brown) and Kevin (Justin Hartley) — just had 'A Hell of a Week' and after three episodes of their excruciating issues bubbling from the past, they head to the family cabin.
As we wait for Season 4 Episode 14 titled 'The Cabin', a new promo shows a flashback from their past. In the clip, young Kate, Randall and Kevin sit on a log as their father Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia) introduces them to a box alongside mom Rebecca Pearson (Mandy Moore).
"This is the time capsule," Jack tells the three kids as they gasp in admiration. What is the time capsule? It's interesting because "time" is what connects all the characters in the show — from the past to the present and the near future.
The intriguing element is making fans scratch their heads and there are many theories floating around on social media. "I wanna do a time capsule with my friends then kids if I ever have any. Such a sweet, reflective idea," one fan posted.
In another flashback, teen Kate (Hannah Zeile) is still struggling with her toxic boyfriend Mark (Austin Abrams) after being locked out of the cabin. "Mark, it's freezing, please open the door," she begs him.
Don't you just want Kate to cut all ties from Mark? Fans want the same and the funniest theory on Twitter is where they're hoping the time capsule turns out to be Kate's then-boyfriend Mark's body.
"Who else is hoping that 'time capsule' they dig up next week is actually Mark's body?" one viewer wrote and another said, "Crossing fingers that the 'time capsule' is Mark's body."
Not just that, there's more to look forward to in the promo. "Are you sure I shouldn't just take him with me?" Kate asks Toby Damon (Chris Sullivan) before leaving for the cabin.
"Jack and I will be just fine," Toby assures Kate. Meanwhile, Randall's wife Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) tries to calm him down. "You need to relax. Mountain air will be good for you."
Back in the present day, an older Kate, Kevin and Randall are super excited as they dig up something in a freezing snowstorm. "We gotta take out the time capsule," Randall joyfully announces to the other two. Kevin stumbles upon something and says, "Hear that?"
Well, many others are wondering about what happens at the cabin that creates a tiff between Kevin and Randall.
"Alright, so I'm thinking that the beef between Randall and Kev will start during the trip to the cabin and whatever is in the time capsule? Are they gonna drag the reason why until the season finale? Probably so..." one fan wrote.
Another said, "They’ll open the time capsule & there will be a mention about Sophie in it. Kevin will go to New York & when his girl back. PLEASE!"
Another tweet read, "Am I the only one seeing that #ThisIsUs preview and thinking they don't find the time capsule but find the dead body and the family secret Jack was keeping?"
The new episode airs next Tuesday, February 18, on NBC.
