'This Is Us' Season 4 Episode 11: Top 5 reasons why Kevin and Randall are not on talking terms in the future
'This Is Us' brought quite an emotional closure to the first episode with Randall Pearson (Sterling K Brown) reaching out to his brother, Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley). Accepting that he needs help, he tells Kev, "I am not okay." Highlighting the moment, one fan wrote, "Finally. Randall admitted to Kevin his (sic) not ok. Three words difficult to say I'm not ok. I need help."
Viewers were moved by their bond and have been obsessing over why the two brothers were not on talking terms. "Seeing Kevin and Randall be so kind to each other and knowing that it will get to a point where they’re not speaking is breaking my heart," one fan posted on Twitter after watching the Big Three special episode.
Many other fans shared his sentiment. "@NBCThisisUs please don’t make Kevin and Randall mad at each other. I love how these two are there for each other when the other is in trouble — personally or emotionally. @justinhartley and @SterlingKBrown are pure magic in scenes together."
In a recent interview, Justin Hartley revealed that fans need to be worried. "It's big. No, it's big, big," Hartley said. "It's more than a misunderstanding. I think it's a philosophy. It's like, 'This is how you handle your life and this is how you deal with things and this is what you think. I go about my business a different way,' and they just can't [see eye to eye]
Pondering over the reasons for their tiff, several fans wondered what could have led to Kevin and Randall's fallout and here are some theories. "I think either Kevin gets mad that Randall didn't tell him about Rebecca or Randall, who always got something to say, is going to say some stuff about Kevin's relationship/baby mama (especially if it's Sophie). That's what's going to come between them in the next months," one fan wrote.
Another fan wrote on Twitter: "I bet Kevin & Randall aren’t talking because Randall never said shit about her Alzheimer’s & Kev went all, but that’s my mom." One Reddit user said, "I really think Kate will have the baby but will die as will Kevin. We will see the time in between possibly? I think somehow Randall will find out he has a sibling that maybe William never knew about."
No matter what led to their fallout, the plot twist will definitely leave fans teary-eyed. "Could Randall and Kevin fall out because of Randall lying about their mom?" one tweet read and another said, "Also, what if Kevin and Randall stopped talking because Randall accused Kevin of forcing a relationship because of his own self-imposed timeline? #ThisIsUs."
Creator Dan Fogelman earlier spoke about why Randall wasn't speaking with Kevin and hinted at how it could have something to do with Rebecca. “The insinuation is that Kevin and Randall are not really on speaking terms,” Fogelman told The Hollywood Reporter. “Certainly it’s a relationship that’s always been fraught and complicated … And like all of our relationships with our immediate family members, the primal wounds don’t just go away because you’re in a good pocket of a couple of years.”
He continued: “Sometimes all it takes is that powder keg moment to explode to bring back the core issues, which all stems from their childhood and their relationships to their parents and their places in the family as kids. Again, it’s been another place that we always planned on going particularly next season: watching what happens when these brothers fracture a little bit and what would cause them to fracture that way.”
It seems 'This Is Us' fans will have to wait for a long time before finding out what actually transpires between the two. The next episode airs after a short hiatus on February 11 on NBC.
