Netflix's upcoming series titled 'The Witcher' is based on author Andrzej Sapkowski's work -- a collection of short stories and novels -- and stars Henry Cavill in the lead role. The author is part of the creative team of the show and hence the book's adaptation is an anticipated release.

The show sees Cavill play the role of Geralt of Rivia or the White Wolf in Elder Speech, the protagonist of the show. He is a witcher who is capable of hunting monsters that roam the land, and he makes his living by doing so.

From the latest trailer released Thursday, it is clear Geralt is not a man who would interfere in the world of politics. In the trailer, he promises he will ensure Princess Ciri reaches her kingdom safely.

However, this is quite unlike his apolitical character as he had always made it a point to keep himself uninvolved. His journey of taking responsibility for Ciri and how that influences his life is what will make up the first season of 'The Witcher'.

Then we have Princess Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon (Freya Allan) who is known as the Lion Cub of Cintra. In the books, she is the child of Elder Blood and lady of Time and Space.

This gives her the power to cross and travel through space as a descendant of Lara Dorren. Her parents are Pavetta and Duny and later she is adopted by Geralt and Yennefer of Vengerberg.

Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) is Geralt's soulmate and in the books, the two get married in the short story 'Something Ends, Something Begins'. However, the show sees Yennefer and Geralt just begin to get to know each other from the looks of it.

The trailer also shows how the Kingdom of Nilfgaard is ready for war and Princess Ciri becomes a political pawn in this war. To escape her fate at the hands of the kingdom that recently conquered Ciri's country, she leaves in search of Geralt.

We will see Ciri try to learn how to be a witcher from Geralt in the show and she will also seek his help in remaining safe and away from the hands of the people who hold power in the Kingdom of Nilfgaard.

Another interesting character that we were introduced to in the most recent trailer is Fringilla Vigo portrayed by Mimi Ndiweni. She is a Nilfgaardian sorceress who is a member of the Lodge of Sorceresses.

According to the game and books, Fringilla is also the one who blinded Yennefer who was fighting on the other side. She is at one point, also involved in a romantic relationship with Geralt. While she is completely taken by him, Geralt doesn't forget Yennefer.

'The Witcher' is slated to release December 20 on Netflix.
